Default Any of you nuts use a Katech/Thunder Racing billet belt tensioners?

Katech

Thunder Racing

I installed a blinged out water pump on my buddy's SS camaro last weekend and he had the TR one and it looked very very nice.

Lately my tensioner pulley has been chirping (probably needs grease) and I've noticed that it flexes when the motor is running.

The pics make it look like the Katech and TR piece are the same, but TR mars it up $10. Both come w/ a new pulley. I think I'm going to order the Katech one.

Anyone use one?

I've got one on my motor. Works fine, keeps the belt on even zinged up to 7300 during burnouts. I re-adjust it a couple of times a year as the belt takes it's set.

^ Thanks... I'm going to call Katech and order one. Any tips for belt tension? I'm guessing it's just like my beater Toyota truck... just good n' tight so you can move the belt some when pushed on w/ your finger.

I have one on my LS1 powered C3 and have had zero problems with it. Mine is the Thunder Racing one but they just buy it from Katech and put their logo on it. Be carefuly of imposters. Jason from Katech said that there are immitation units out there that are nowhere near the quality of theirs.

I've used several of them. At some point, you begin accelerating the engine faster than the stock tensioner spring can keep up with.

Thanks guys.

Here's the story on the tensioner:

We developed it back in 1998 when the ASA engines began throwing belts. It did not come with a pulley. Thunder Racing is one of our dealers and has purchased them in the past. At some point, somebody copied our tensioner and Thunder buys some of those. Now they still buy ours sometimes and I don't know what their policy is on selling either of the two. About a year ago we redesigned our tensioner. The new design has some cutouts that looks nicer and weighs less (a nominal amount). We also began selling the tensioner with the pulley at no additional charge. The tensioner now comes fully assembled and torqued with locktite on the proper bolts. Also, it uses zinc-dichromate plated bolts for longevity. Whenever I see a tensioner with rusted bolts, I know it's one of the imposters. All authentic Katech tensioners have a laser etched Katech logo and part number. We now offer red and blue and soon to offer silver.

So where is it actually sold you don't seem to have it for sale to the public (now) Checked Gulstrand, Thunder racing, UMI, none of them seem to have yours listed for sale?

I have to be careful. We are not a CF sponsor, so I can answer your questions but I can't solicit business.

It's just a tire trailer w/ a hard box and a diamond plate deck... nothing fancy Old pic. It's black/red for the most part. I peeled all the previous owner's stickers off and am starting fresh.

And my tool box is black! Well was black before the stickers

Thanks
