Default C6 vs M3 -which is better??

I'm looking to start road-racing @ a club level. Trying to get some track time with a new car. Do you guys suggest a C6 vette or a newer BMW M3? I would like some UNbiased opinions. Would also like to get to Englishtown for a few 1/4 mile passes, as well.

I'm just worried about prices for aftermarket parts, RELIABILITY ISSUES, etc.

Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx much!

M3 is a great car - but it isn't in the class of the Corvette

The Corvette Tax is high - wait till you pay the BMW tax...

No, no! If you're just starting out, you might be prone to the beginner's mistakes, so get the M3 first and when you've torn that up and tested out all the ditches, then get the C6. I'd hate to see you tear up a Corvette learning.

The M3 is a great handling car, it is as good if not slightly better than the vette. But after driving both I could never see myself in the M3. It just has no power. Even if the M3 went through the same corner faster than the vette, the vette would catch up and overtake so fast that the slight handling advantage of the M3 would mean nothing . Nice car, but the Vette is where it's at! Handling, massive power and good looks to boot!

M3 is probably the best handling sports coupe ever made. The C6 is one of the best handling cars ever made. The Vette will out corner it and eat it like a grape on the straights. My 2000 WS6 Trans Am was a great match for an M3. The Vette--no contest.

M3 is going to have much higher insurance, part costs, and repair costs. Its reliability may also be slightly worse.

The only area IMO where it exceeds the Vette in performance is handling feel - feedback, steering feel, etc.

Neither! Go get an 'adult' driven, low miles Z06...02-03. Start searching for T1 suspension parts (out of produciton as I understand it). Replace the seats with appropriate racing seats/rollbar/5 pt harness. Stoptech for brakes (call Lou G's company for their opinion as to race worthiness).

This should get you well started for a

Yes, that is certainly the recipe for a road racing car... you don't even need the T1 suspension.

I would agree with the Vette...but like someone said...this is a Corvette forum. Best thing [VETTE] to do is try both of the cars out. I know some BMW dealerships have a test track out back to get an idea about handling. Depending on [VETTE]where you live...you might find a dealer who will let you test drive a new or possilbly [VETTE] a used corvette. Good luck with your decision.

P.S. Did you notice my "subliminal" messages? Probaly not...I'm pretty sneaky

This should get you well started for a whole lot less with a car that will out run the C6 and M3 on a track. It won't come close to the C6 in terms of comfort etc for road trips--but on the track, you will have a 'machine'.

I went with the C6 vice the M3. I have driven an M3 prior to buying the corvette. The M3 is a nice car and I would recommend it but the corvette was the better buy for the performance.

Corbeau A4 leather seats. Very comfortable and fit for road racing.

I dont like the look of the Z06. Never did until the new ones came out. As for road-racing, just looking to do track events with CarGuys, maybe SCCA. Also miss the 1/4 mi @ Englishtown.

If you want an unbiased opinion, you should not ask here.

Vette forum= Vette bias.
BMW forum= BMW bias.

I suggest you ask the question on a honda, lexus or mitsubishi forum as a start for an unbiased opinion.
