If rotors DON'T crack, when do you replace them?
Since I mainly autox, I haven't had the problem of cracking brake rotors. All the rotors show typical surface wear, and the fronts have the traditional spider web surface cracking.
So, what do I use now to determine when to replace rotors?
TIA, and have a good one,
Mike

I'd tend to agree-- just replace 'em when they get to the minimum thickness. As long as you're doing mainly autoX, I wouldn't think you'd run into any serious cracking or failure issues from that, since there aren't sustained periods of heavy braking.

I replace mine when the spider cracks extend to the outer edge of the rotor. Necessary? I dunno, but I figure it's cheap insurance

I want to get with them sometime, but I've got a schedule conflict for November (going to see my daughter in college). I *did* manage to get a friend of mine who's got very little experience signed up, I think he'll have a blast!
I've got a couple of friends who are memebers at MSR, and I'm planning on killing my old set of autox tires there during the off-season.
Have a great time there!
And, to all the others, thx for the recommendations. That was about the only thing I knew to check; now I'll have to get a set of calipers to measure the thickness.
Y'all have a good one,
Mike

[QUOTE=VetteDrmr]Actually, I've never run with TDE, so I guess I'd start with the green group.
I'll give you a yell when we do the next one. We are all former Auto-Xer's. Once you do a road corse, you'll be hooked just like the rest of us. The lower run groups will fill the quickest, about 4 to 6 weeks prior so plan ahead. Auto-X tires work very well at the track and with your experance at A-X, you'll move up to the top classes quickly.
Maybe next month?

My son and I will be at MSR in Nov. with TDE. I don't know if I will be instructing or not. Rick has not let me know if we will need me or not. I have not run any events since June! I also have never run the new full track at MSR Cresson.
