Default If rotors DON'T crack, when do you replace them?

Since I mainly autox, I haven't had the problem of cracking brake rotors. All the rotors show typical surface wear, and the fronts have the traditional spider web surface cracking.

So, what do I use now to determine when to replace rotors?

TIA, and have a good one,
Mike

minimum thickness requirements usually stamped on OEM rotors.

Yeah.. I'd check the thickness of the rotors. If they get beyond the minimum thickness, they aren't really safe to use. You wouldn't want to explode a rotor.

I'd tend to agree-- just replace 'em when they get to the minimum thickness. As long as you're doing mainly autoX, I wouldn't think you'd run into any serious cracking or failure issues from that, since there aren't sustained periods of heavy braking.

I replace mine when the spider cracks extend to the outer edge of the rotor. Necessary? I dunno, but I figure it's cheap insurance

Hay Mike, are you doing TDE at MSR next month?? A small group of us from LSCC will be burning some rubber off. Rick has a few spots left in the Red Group.

Hey, you are alive. Guess who I have as an instructor here at CMP with the NCM event. Do the letter BPKM mean anything to you?

Hope all is well on the left coast. Tracy says HI

Actually, I've never run with TDE, so I guess I'd start with the green group.

I want to get with them sometime, but I've got a schedule conflict for November (going to see my daughter in college). I *did* manage to get a friend of mine who's got very little experience signed up, I think he'll have a blast!

I've got a couple of friends who are memebers at MSR, and I'm planning on killing my old set of autox tires there during the off-season.

Have a great time there!

And, to all the others, thx for the recommendations. That was about the only thing I knew to check; now I'll have to get a set of calipers to measure the thickness.

Y'all have a good one,

Mike

I'll give you a yell when we do the next one. We are all former Auto-Xer's. Once you do a road corse, you'll be hooked just like the rest of us. The lower run groups will fill the quickest, about 4 to 6 weeks prior so plan ahead. Auto-X tires work very well at the track and with your experance at A-X, you'll move up to the top classes quickly.

Maybe next month?

That'd be great! I'm surprised they're running at all in December; bunches of conflicts that month. Maybe I can get a TDE weekend at MSR for Christmas!

Have a good one,
Mike

My son and I will be at MSR in Nov. with TDE. I don't know if I will be instructing or not. Rick has not let me know if we will need me or not. I have not run any events since June! I also have never run the new full track at MSR Cresson.
