Default Anyone know Carbotech Pad Thicknesses?

I have set form my C5, x10 and x8's. Trying to determine original thickness versus what is left.

TIA

The fronts are .400 new (XP10 or XP8). This is not including the backing plate. The rears I beleive are .425. Or at the very least .400 like the fronts.

They give you a tad more meat than other vendors. Most front pads are .375 new.

My Carbotech pads 1111 were riveted together. You can only use about 50% of what is new.

That doesn't sound right, 50% available for use.

Carbotech's website is down again. I need to contact to find out myself.

I contacted Chris Ingle, one of the top C5 drivers in T1. I asked him about using Carbotech pads. Here is his reply.

"The rivets have nothing to do with 'usable material.' Those babies will stop til you get all the way to the metal backing plate. When I was doing DE stuff, I ran my tires to the cord and my brakes to the backing plates...always. I used up everything I had...every time!

Subject: Carbotech Question

This is a message from Chalky at Corvette Forum ( http://forums.corvetteforum.com/index.php
). The Corvette Forum owners cannot accept any responsibility for the contents
of the email.

I decided to get out off HPDE and am selling my X8 and X10 pads as well as other
items. Question arose about useable material left on X10 & X8. I measured .3
material still available against a perceived original thickness of .4.
Someone then claimed that the useable material available is only useable down to
.2 as rivets makes the remaining material unusable.

Can you clarify?

Dave

Chris is spot on, I did the same at DE's even when I used pads inferior to Carbotechs. Use them up!!

Definately no problem running Carbotechs down to the rivets. I try not to do it on purpose, but I've done it a couple of times without issue.

I always run the Carbotechs down to the backing plates as a matter of principle as well(and have never had a problem) but you should be aware that when I asked this very same question to the technical staff at Carbotech; they recommended AGAINST running beyond the rivet head because the rivets provide a significant source of mechanical retention of the pad to the backing plate.

Chris is somewhat affiliated with Carbotech, but I agree they're the best pad I've tried to date. They have a lot of bite/grin factor vs the others I've tried.

I spoke with Matt at Carbotech today. I had some used pads and a set of calipers in my hands while we spoke. He said you can use the pads down to the rivets or backing plates. The performance of the pads will not change. Your pistons/calipers/fluid might get hotter than usual near the end due to more heat transfer with less pad material.

New pad total thickness is 15.5mm plate and pad. First he quoted American measurements, but I wasn't smart enough to figure out the fractions so he gave me the metric numbers.

I measured my backing plates at 4.5mm. Which leaves 11mm of pad material when new. The pads I was measuring actually had 8mm of material, pretty close to 2/3 left.

That should clear up everything. I'm glad I wasn't the only one wondering about this.
