I've used the Nady (in-car) for years, and they are pretty much the cheapest out there. They do have lots of issues though - the wiring for the mics are razor thin and won't normally last long so you'll get lots of static until you replace them.
There are many other brands of communicators normally used for motorcycles that are much better. If you're going to instruct a lot, spend the money and get the better versions. You'll pay less in the long run and have a lot less trouble. I had ordered a high-end version of communicator (in-car) back in late 2000, but cancelled it because I decided to take the car full racing and knew I wouldn't be instructing too much any more.
As far as pit-to-car radios, I've been using the Speedcom radios and like them a lot. Some folks use Kenwood, etc. Most have about 5 watts of power now and that combined with a good antenna and you'll be able to hear just about everything. You can also get programmable radios so you can change freqs anytime you want instead of just using what came with the radio. Buy whatever you can afford.

I bought Nady PMC-2X on ebay for about $40. Works great. It has a small box (little larger than a pack of cigarettes) and runs on AAA batteriess. Vox headphones/mikes fit in helmet.
Great deal.

If you are going to be using it alot you may want to go with a higher quality unit. I only run 1 or 2 road races a year so cheap was good for me. I'm very happy with it and the boom mike is pretty good.
At HPDE my instructor had a unit that mounted to his helmet. He had a headset he plugged into it for students. I can see where that would wear out quickly as it was changed out over 10 times a day for different students.

Thanks Ernie...
So I assuming what I need is:
Chatterbox HJC-50 Standard Tandem Pro Kit
AC Charger
Full Face Headset
Headset Extension Cord
Passenger Headset
Anything else?
Nevermind...it looks like they have a full kit for $129 or so....
Chatterbox HJC-50 Complete Kit

Not the full face headset. Open face headset.
the full face has velcurl mic on a wire vs the open face has the mic on a boom coneced to the ear piece.
This is what most instructors use.

I use the Chatterbox, but do have one gripe that it's a bit thick and my ear really hurts after some time. On days when I have a student(s) and take some out for ride-alongs I need to leave it out for the ride alongs to rest my ear a bit. The Nady feels better but supposedly isn't very good. They seemed to work fine anytime I've used one.

When they are installed this way it's great
