Anybody ever run at John Hunt Park in Huntsville AL?
Even though my wallett says otherwise, I haven't raced enough this year, so I'm toying with the idea of heading south for the NCCC 14 event weekend in Hunstville Dec 2-3. Who's been there, what's it like? From satellite views it looks like it's at a baseball field, but the event flyer describes it as an old airport. Where do they run? Who's going?

I'll be going to watch, there was another thread last month for te Nov. race at this site, this is an old Army airport, it is used for autocrossing and what ever.
It is not a bad event and is run pretty well, it is COLD there in Dec so prepare yourself.
If you go, stay at the event hotel, the room rate is only $29.95 night at a 4 star hotel.

Is it colder than Detroit in December?

The co driver and the car are unwilling to make the trip to AL. Back to silly season and figure out where I can spend money on the car. So outside of video games no racin just wrenchin'!
P.S. If you reconsider I could pick up a set of tires to run there!

We've run there and it is a really fun and friendly (with one exception that I'll tell you privately) event. They feed you too. The hotel deal is outstanding as was mentioned. It's not quite as fast as some of those southern "low speeds" but close.
Need your other wheel for that? If so, I'll get on it.

bad in December. I'm, sure every NCCC person that has run there has
a "weather story" about Huntsville. IMO, the surface is terrible and
the course has many obsticles ( Poles, ditches, fences, holes) Every
time I have gone, there is someone that goes home with a torn up
Vette. Less than a mile away is another site that is the best I have
raced on, so good in fact that the SCCA is rumored to be considering
a national tour there. Too bad that so many NCCC clubs do not
understand that more people will attend and pay a little extra to race
on a great surface.

Russ is correct, this site is not the best and yes the surface is terrible, and there are obsticles and it is COLD in Dec. With that being said, the events are fun

How is the surface terrible? Too slick? Broken up? Gravelly? Typically when I think the surface is terrible, I don't have fun, yet you guys still insist the events are fun, so it can't be that bad. I'm trying to decide whether or not to make the trip...weather will be the ultimate factor, but any details that you guys who've been there can give will help. I appreciate the input! I really do want to go though...

We are going to Roebling Road, without car, but we will be there, I am not allowed to drive yet, however, Margaret and I are going to work the event.
Are you and Mary going?

As far as the surface is concerned it is gravelly, not too broken up, and slick in spots.

Hang on guys. I was just at this site a few weeks ago for an NCCC event and the surface was much improved! It seems the local car club has struck up a deal with the local street sweeping company to use this site as a test facility for thier street sweepers. So the condition of the surface will probably depend on when the company last used the site. But just the fact that the surface is now being cleaned some what regularly is a huge improvement. Race tires actually have something to grip, instead of just getting coated with all the loose asphalt that use to be the norm for this site.
The other comments from Russ still apply though. There is a ditch on one side that has claimed a few cars in years past. Even the event I went to was not incedent free as we had one participant go through the fence after losing control and spinning out into the grass.
Hope that helps,

It will be high 60's low 70's this weekend. I may even drag my old 99 out for a cruise.
