Default LS6 users: what valve springs do you use?

Just curious to see what people are doing in light of the rare but real possibility of loosing a valve spring on the track in a STOCK LS6.

Are most of you changing to Comp. 26918's, changing to LS2 springs, or just leaving it alone for now?

Thanks

I think this is only a concern if you change cams. Why would you change the springs out with a stock cam?

If the cam is not stock, you need to buy the appropriate/recommended spring for that cam.

You would change the springs on a stock cam because with the LS6 there have been some cases, mostly with 2002 / early 2003 cars, where the valve springs have let go at idle on bone stock engines with miles as low as 14k mi. Usually they do not drop a valve but occasionally they do, in which case, you need a rebuild on your motor. This would really suck if you were, say, 300 mi from home at a track when you did not trailer the car, drove it to attend a HPDE.

I just changed to Crane's new 144833-16 springs. There are vastly improved over their older 832 springs, and are on a par with the Comp Cams 921 springs.

Good luck with your decision.

unless you are turning more than 7600rpm, the stock valve springs work just fine with the sodium filled valves. And this is with a much larger camshaft than OEM.

Any spring can break, but OEM is quite good in this case

Comp 918's or 04 LS6 springs

Don't go too heavy on the springs, Comp 921's and stock valve's don't mix, it is possible to overload the stock valves. I've heard/seen valve failures with too much seat pressure.

I spent about two hours at Katech three weeks ago going over specs for an engine that I want built this next spring. During that discussion, Katech told me that they have their best luck with the stock sodium-filled, hollow-stemmed '02 thru '04 Z06 exhaust valve. They regularly turn them in the mid 8,000 rpm range.

Which springs did Katech tell you to use? I'm assuming not 921's, Katech has there own springs listed on there site, not sure who makes them. But just as a warning if you overload them they can/do break. Personally I wouldn't put a double spring on the stock valves.
