Help putting together a Canton Accusump on C4
I read a number a threads about adding this to my C4 and it looks like mounting this behind the diff is going to be best for me. This is a street/strip car and I don't need a oil cooler at this time.
The question I cannot find an answer for is if I use a sandwich adapter for the oil filter will this make the oil filter stick below the oil pan? I have a Canton RR pan.
I am also looking for advice on all the correct parts for this project. So far the parts list is the 3 qt Canton Accusump, sandwich adapter, and lines. Anything else?
I got a lot good info from this thread.

I don't think you'll have a problem. How thick is your adapter, about 2"? My filter is not in any danger of protruding below my Canton pan. However, a few simple measurements will answer your question. Is the pan already on the car and do you have the adaptor yet?
You can always relocate the filter. Run a relocator and hose from the stock filter location and hang the filter somewhere else. More work, but it eliminates the danger of smacking the filter on something underneath. Plus, it makes it easy to change.
I think you're foolish to do all the work to add a sump and NOT add a cooler. You can get one for less than $100 (probably half that) and put it anywhere. You're doing the hard part, which is running the oil lines. Putting a filter in the system is about 5 minutes extra work. You may not think you need one, but what if your needs change down the line?

So you have the sandwich adapter now and the filter does not stick below the pan? I really don't want to relocate the filter. I have read I can just add a T in the line to put in a cooler in the future. The lines and the fittings can add to the cost besides the cooler.
I should have the engine back the first week of December. There are a number reasons why I just want the Accusump now. I plan on getting a cooler when I go to the occasional road race. That will be in the future (a year plus from now) as the car is not ready to tackle that now.
I run the Nitto road race tires on all wheels for the street and I have the 2 caliper per wheel braking system. I am more likely to do the occasional drag race at this time so I don't have to worry about oil temps like on a road course and I don't drive that far each day to work. I am lucky to see the oil to reach normal operating temps.
So with the brakes and tires I have I need protection from the abrupt starts and stops that the Canton RR pan and Accusump combo would give me. I spun a rod bearing in the stock 350 due to sticky tires and I want to be protected this time.

With the OEM cooler that is sandwiched between the block
and the filter, the OEM filter does not extend below the
bottom of the oil pan. The Moroso and Canton adapters
are same as or thinner than the OEM L98 cooler.
I BELIEVE the OEM filter is an ACDelco PF-35C. Regardless
of whether it is or not, various lengths of filters are
available. My vote is that the only difference between
a shorter and a longer version of a given filter (same
brand, same model) is that the shorter one has a shorter
lifespan. Most of us change oil and filters before they
are due so I vote that a shorter filter will work fine for
your application.

or pressure controlled) to prevent the accumulator from discharging
into the sump upon shutdown.
If I were in your situation, in addition to your accumulator,
my parts list would consist of:
1 - Low pressure switch and warning light combination
1 - Moroso oil filter adapter p/n #23690 (or Canton equiv)
1 - Canton EPC Valve configured for your minimum oil pressure
(A thread about the EPC - Canton Accusump Electronic Pressure Control (EPC) Operation)

To me, the principal advantage of an adapter lies in the larger
port sizes. The Moroso & Canton inlet/outlets are 1/2" NPT.
I recall but have not searched for a thead where OEM ports
are discussed. IIRC, there may be a larger port on later blocks?
However, I believe the L98 block only has ports that are less than
1/2". When working with a bare block, there is always the option
of adding or enlarging a port.

Finally got some of the parts to start the job. I am almost done with fabing up a bracket in the rear for the Accusump. I got the Moroso oil filter adapter p/n #23690 and am wondering what oil filter you guys use for that. I appears to take a much larger filter.
