Default 50K mile Carbotech brake report – Dodge 3500 Dually.

50K mile Carbotech brake report – Dodge 3500 Dually.

Considering Carbotech makes racing brakes (among other types), this sort of belongs on this thread. Because I tow so much and so often, the stock brakes on my 2003 Dodge 3500 Dually burned up in just 70K miles. So, I had the Carbotech guys build me a set of Bobcat High Performance brakes for the truck. The truck now has 120K on the clock so those brakes are now at 50K miles and I thought I’d let you know how they’ve done.

It is sooooo nice to able to stop while towing!!!!! The difference between Dodge’s stock pads and the Carbos are just night and day. Even towing, I’m able to engage the ABS, which is really incredible if you’ve ever tried it. In other words, I can get the maxing braking power possible under any condition! I routinely towed a combined weight (truck and trailer) of 19-22K lbs and the brakes still have well over 50% of their life left and stop phenomenally well. The rotors remain nice and shiny and not grooved at all. And since Carbotech’s brake material is different from most and uses a ceramic mix, the dust is no worse than stock and is non-corrosive. It doesn’t even stick to the wheels and hub cabs after a rain so clean up is a snap.

And oh, did I mention that the price of a full set of the Carbotech brakes was much less than what Dodge wanted for a new set of their POS brakes.

Nice job guys…you continue to impress!!!!!

I was shocked at how well Chris' truck actually stopped with the carbotech brakes when I was riding around with him and he had to do a panic stop. It is definitely something I would consider if I had a tow vehicle.

yea after this year I agree.

I dropped PFC pads in my dooley also a 2001 3500 Dodge. I have 93 on mine and I am on my 6th set of pads Original rotors without much wear but the pads disappear. The are Lifetime so I just keep dropping them in. Wasted one rear rotor so then I had to pull the axle PITA but still only 75 minutes work to do the rear brakes.

Also doing 10,000 on oil changes with Valvoline 15/40 dino oil.

I'm pretty good to my equipment - racecar or tow vehicle. Now keep in mind that at 70K, I hit the backing plate on the rears!!! The Carbotechs are going to last much longer!!!!

Our last truck went 120,000 on the original set of brake pads. (2001 Dodge Cummins 3500) Our mechanic bought it at about 50K miles. It's a 6 speed with an exhaust brake. He'll admit he probably went a little too far - but - we kid with him - "he's a professional".

Current truck (2003 Dodge Cummins 3500) is at about 55K miles - TONS of pad left. Also 6 speed with exhuast brake.

Most of these miles were towing a 48 foot trailer loaded with 2 cars and tons of assorted crap.

Once you've towed with one you WILL NOT go back.

I'm sure they can. Just call Dan, Chris, Matt or Larry at 1-877-899-5024 or check out their site for more info (www.carbotecheng.com).

My front hubs are still on the car - no issues with them yet. Yep, it's a 4x4.

What I meant is ball joints mine were gon at about 40 but to replace them you end up ruinning the hubs in most cases as they cannot be removed without damaging the hubs. Took 6 hours to get mine off and that is common on the Turbdieselregistry. Next time they should pop off with anti-sieze I put on them. Need to check ball joints again near 60 on them. Ever do you tranny bands?

Bands in auto are supposed to be tighten every 30,000 and fluid changed. You can feel the difference in shifting after it is done. You have one lucky truck.
