Don't forget Nashville Motor Speedway and Talladega, big and little.

I will be in Clarksville next weekend. My daughter is graduating from Austin Peay. I will be glad to talk to you about what is available.

PM with a phone number and I will get in touch if you would like.

Several of the vettes in the area have been to the Nashville Speedway roadcourse. Wicks puts on a lot of the HPDE's there. We always have a good turnout of vettes as well as some very good instructors. Here is the link. Oh yeah, he is based here in Nashville. http://www.minidriving.com/

Thanks for all the replies. I guess my other question about the road racing scene is. What all is involved in running your car. Can you sign up for one of the events and be able to run your car without having to follow a pace car? Is there any limitaions as to what speed you can drive etc.?

Most of these events are High Performance Drivers events. you will have an instructor in you right seat to teach you the fine art of High Performance Driving.

This does not mean you will be speed limited, HOWEVER, your instructor will keep both of you safe. Which means, good vision, traffic managment, passing, smooth acceleartion, Threshold braking, Car control, smooth safe yet fast cornering ( no drifting does not count) i.e. this is not NASCAR bumpdraft bumper cars either.

and no there are no pace cars.

I think Panoz days at Rd Atl and Shelby American events run with a pace car and no instructors - I do not recommend it.

HPDEs require a helmet and a car in good condition. NASA Time Trial requires the same once you get thru all the HPDE levels. Race classes, hill climbs, SCCA Solo II and others all require more safety equipment in your car as you go.
