HELP !!! Anyone with Fuel Cell Knowledge?
Hi Gang,
I am prepping a C6 with an LS7 into a race car. I am wondering if anyone has any ideas on my choices for fuel cells. I am aware of the Pratt & Miller option which will be very expensive and labor intensive.
I have my donor car (which was a perfectly good C6 ) just about undressed.
Here's a partial list on some things that will be going into it.
Moton 4-Ways
Solid Bushings
Solid Engine Mounts
Lexan Glass
MoTec Data Aquisition W/ Digital Dash
MOMO Wheel
Fikse Rims
Schroth 6 pt.Harness
Brembo GTR
Tilton Flywheel & Clutch
Spraco seats
Radiator, Oil and Trans cooler
Elec Kill Switch
Re-Gear Rear End
Headers and X-Pipe
Safecraft Fire System
LS7 headed to Katech soon.
Next step is the Cage with NASCAR bars.
You can read about it with many pictures in link below:

Thanks for any suggestions.

do a "fuel cell" search on this forum, there are a number of threads (remember to select "search archives")

Thanks,
Most threads I've seen relate to C5s.
I should have mentioned also:
I'm trying to keep the same shape and location and I want to be able to use the same filler door. This will also allow me to smooth out the bottom of the car at the same time.

Shortthrow I'm sure you are aware of the fuel cell configuration that the Porsche factory uses on their racecars: They use several fuel pumps to pump from the large fuel cell into a tall narrow "feeder cell", like the dry sump tank. Then they use one more fuel pump to pump from that tank to the fuel injection system. That way there is never a question of fuel starvation. Good luck.

Garrett,
Yes, thank you. Funny thing is my shop has done numerous Porsche's and BMW's which is what they primarily race. The C6 is not as easy if I want to keep the same location, etc...

Get a hold of LGM. He can set you up with the fuel system you need (like the described porsche one, with surge tank, HP pump, and small scavenge pumps in each tank). That is what they use on the WCGT cars. The late C5 and C6 fuel tank setup is very similar.
Unless your rules require a fuel cell, the stock tanks are very well protected, and are allowed in many racing series. The only problem to solve there is consistent deliver, that's where the sure tank system with scavenge pumps come in.

Wheel-to-wheel has a T shaped cell that drops in over the rear axle, maybe slightly behind it. It was used in most World Challenge cars until they decided the weight was better ahead of the axles. Stock tanks are fine, and allowed in almost every class (ran them in both of my World Challenge cars), but thei Wheel-to-wheel or Pratt Miller are your only drop in choices. However, you can have any fuel cell mounted, assuming your guys know what they are doing.

Ok so you are putting in a 10,000 dollar suspension, motec system at a huge price tag, with trick everything. But you are worried about spending too much time and money on the cells. Buy the stuff from Pratt and Miller and be done with it. OR you can mount it all the way in back with a standard cell, but that sucks.

I specifically said, "I am wondering if anyone has any ideas on my choices for fuel cells."
I certainly am not looking to cut any corners. I have helped many and been helped by many with this forum. I was just looking for all possible options I haven't come across. I have ordered other items from Pratt and Miller and they have been very helpful.
I agree mounting standard cells in the back is not ideal.

Worried was the wrong word, sorry.
Pratt and Miller cells are the best out there. Nothing even comes close in my book. Keep up the good work!!! Fall-line doing the work???

Look right beside the jack mount you will see how the cells should be finished off. Because they are just a bladder you will need to enclose the cells simular to what we did. I hope this helps.

Yes, familiar with them?
Randy, no apologies here, I wasn't offended and knew you meant well.
I perhaps did not articulate properly.

I know of them, they order a few things from me a year. I have seen their website that is how I noticed the shop. They seem to be a good shop, I have talked with JP and he is very up on the corvettes.
