Default C4? Removing front inner fenders

For a track only car, any issues with removing the front inner fenders? This would include the sections mounted on the hood.

If you truly mean all the liners, then on the driver's side I'd be concerned about a stray piece of debris taking out the battery.

On a '90 and up car I'd be worried about debris puncturing the radiator fill reservoir.

A rock at 100mph can do some serious damage. My liners have a few holes in them from debris hits.

In addition, the liners lend a little support to the front bumper shell, so it'll deform a bit at speed.

Of course on a race car, all bets are off since you may be relocating things or adding bracing.

I'm going to relocate the battery to the cargo hole behind the passenger seat, so don't have to worry about that one.

Good point on the reservois. Of course, one metal shield will weigh as much as all of the liners.

Anyone had a rock come off the tire and go through the hood?

No. But I can see where the plastic liner took some shots.

Don't be surprised if you get star burst cracks in your paint on the hood above the wheels without the upper liners. Rocks hitting the under side of a fiberglass or FRP hood at 100mph will do that. Ask me how I know.

My race car didn't have any upper liners on the food. I just had bare fiberglass there from the race tires throwing sand and rocks. Not a big deal on a race car for me.

I had replaced the right front on mine, someone backed into it. Having that piece in hand, I can't think much weight would be saved taking the liners out, if that is your reason.

My C4 does not have inner fenders. I have no issues with stray rocks. The advantages are better access to work on the car, less heat, better air flow, etc. I used metal brake tube for braces for the front fascia and side gills. The car is a race car and the battery is relocated.

I would think the alternator getting wet would be my only concern but if you don't run in the wet no worries. Assuming you do relocate some of the more critical pieces. Whats a race car for, right?

Yeah, sand traps and kitty litter will do that.

Keep in on the track, Larry!
