Default C6 Shocks

Don't suppose there're C6 specific shocks available yet?

Are the C6Z shocks a step up or across from the '04 Z06 shocks that everybody loved? What about the C6 Z51 shocks? What is the difference in length between the C5 and C6 shocks?

Don't suppose any of you folks have seen these various shocks on a dyno?

Last I heard the Bilsteins were the C5 length but being sold for the C6 anyway? And a little birdie told me Koni was about to have an off-the-shelf inverted shock for the C6?

This leads us to the Koni 2812 and Penske 8100/8700 shocks which are pretty darn expensive, but sure seem nice... although for less than these shocks cost there's the Pfadt coilovers...

So, who wants to brain dump about C6 shocks?

I would like to but really don't have anything useful to contribute. So far I have chosen to stay with the stock shocks exactly for the reasons you have outlined above.

The 04 Z06 shocks felt the same to me as the 06 Z06 shocks. Both of them have been on my car. The fronts are the same length. The 06 Z06 rears are 1/4" shorter. A little better for lowered cars.

Don't suppose you have any way to draw a comparison with the C6 Z51 shocks? I'm wondering if the C6Z shocks would be worth the time and effort on my C6 Z51 car... or what the other options are.

LGM? DRM? Pfadt? The coil-over packages are close to the same price as any of the "race" shocks... hard sell for me to make that jump as part of the reason for getting the C6 was, in theory, performance without modifications. (Ha!)

Eckler's has double-adjustable Konis: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...06&postcount=5

Anybody toyed with these yet? Anybody know if the C6Z shocks are worth upgrading to from the C6 Z51 shocks? Or the Bilsteins even?

Hard to believe even the shops on the fourms haven't played with shocks on a C6 yet. Only C6s I know that aren't on stock shocks are either Pfadt coil-overs, or Penske 8100s...

Significant difference as compared to the Z51 shocks? Or could you tell if you upgraded the entire suspension at once?

Glen,
What to try my C6Z shocks? I can ship them to you and post the results. Eventually, I want them back to put back on the car when I sell it. Are you going to the January 27 Spring Mountain event? I could bring them with me. BTW, I will be adding dual rate Hyperco coil over springs to my Penske 8100's in the Spring.

I did the whole package, all I really noticed was the lack of body roll (sways I guess) and a lot less compliance-it handles nicely but it's still way faster than I am so who knows...

I'm still rehabbing post-shoulder/elbow. Doc won't clear me to drive on track yet. :-( Are the Hypercos a spring with a helper spring? Over in C6 Tech the folks are saying the C6Z shocks may not be worth it as an upgrade by itself. Let me ponder it... they're a whopping $200 from Fred Beans, so it may not be worth the shipping both ways. :-)

I bet my C6 Z51 is way faster than I am; it's current handling just doesn't give -me- the confidence to push the car. I've ordered up some Pfatty swaybars to try to help transitions, based on past experience I'm thinking shocks should happen before springs.

not to be smart but what kind of shock do you get for 200 when parts counter makes about 50% on parts sales. OEM shocks on a vehicle are a low bid item to get you through a few miles.

When I used to race Moto-X, there used to be a saying when talking about OEM Bultaco bike shocks:
"They last about as long as a free beer at a desert race".

Back in comment #3 mountainbiker said the rears were about 1/4" shorter. I'd expected a bigger difference from what everybody had been saying. The FUD folks are saying using the C5 shocks on a [very] lowered C6 is the only time you'd care... I'm still trying to gather facts.

well, the bilstein sports that everybody loves are about $300 for the set. are they worth the time? who's running what? i assume not everybody is running koni 2812s or penske 8100s. :-)

i see bilstein will revalve the sports for $65/shock "plus development time."

of course, these are c5 shocks, but bilstein is saying they're fine for c6 cars.
