Boris Said endorses Slalom4me's G2X data logger mount
A year and a half ago when I needed to mount my new
G2X for an event in Aug '05, a glance over my shoulder
gave me the idea of using my daughter's booster seat.
This worked so well that I mentioned it to Tim at
Racepak. Tim asked for a photo and I posted a note
with a few details on the Racepak website. Racepak
later displayed the photo for a time on part of their site.
Still, I always expected to see someone step up with
a more sophisticated base for temporary installations.
As it turns out, there is an feature on the G2X in the
Feb '07 issue of Popular Hot Rodding. Air Ride Technologies
hosted a media track event last September and invited
Boris Said along to to show the media guys the fast
way around the track.
Much to my bemusement, the G2X in their feature is afixed
to Slalom4me's data logger mount, a Cosco booster seat
- $15 at your neighborhood Target store.
Mine continues to work well. It even passed Tech at World
of Speed last September at Bonneville.

I remember when you posted that on this forum a while back.
Congratulations!
BTW, is that a cup holder on the left side of the booster seat, underneath that little plastic cap?

Cosco provides all the comforts - the convenient fold-out receptacle
is shaped for both cups AND juice boxes!
Small things amuse small minds, I know. But I passed coffee through
my nose when I came across the photo this morning. After I handed
the magazine across to my wife, her first remark was, 'Do you get any
money for the idea ?'

Well, I WAS looking at the Evenflo stroller the other day. With
a few parts from that, along with the base and some of the slats
from the crib ...

..and you can say "i didn't even take out the baby seat".
Pretty cool.
I'm incredibly anxious to pick up a G2X, Traqmate, or DL1. I just want to wait and see which unit pans out as being the best.

All three brands have their positives, and, yes, all three will help you be a better driver. Because one size does not fit all, I've been expanding my product lines to help fill the needs of a broader customers base. I would carry them all if budget & overhead were not a consideration. That does not mean I still don't have personal preference, just that I recognize that everyone's needs are not the same.
To help you determine what is going to be a good fit for you, here are some areas to look at and some questions to ask yourself. I realize some of these might be difficult for you to answer if your starting from zero with data acquisition but answer for yourself the ones that you can.
Software: How easy is the software to use? What level of software detail do I want (this is a difficult one for newbies)? Does the software help me see where time is lost or gained? Will the software grow with me as my analysis skill increases? am I actually going to look at the data on my laptop when I'm at the track? how much time do I have to spend on the software to get to the point where I'm looking at meaningful information? Can I adjust how the software displays information to me (flexibility)?
Sensors: Do I want to add sensors either now or later? if so, how many is the system capable of? what is the cost to add sensors?
Display: Do I want a display? What do I want my display to do? is just lap times enough? do I want sector times or predictive lap timing? what level of adjustment or customization is the display capable of? Or even, will the clubs I run with allow a timing display in the car?
Finally try the software demos. That's is where you get your benefit from having a logger. If your not comfortable using it or there isn't someone available to help you get to a comfortable point, you are not going to be a happy camper in the long run.
I see your in Indiana. Come over to MidOhio at the April NASA event or come to Putnam on March 24 (100-Speed.com) and I can give you a demo.
Sorry for the long post but I tried to be more complete so that it could serve as good reference point in the future.

Much appreciated Jeremy!
I think I need to sit down, ask those questions and plot out what $$ the total comes up to with each package. I understand extra sensors can be $$ for some of these.
I'm also concerned if any one of these is gaining market share/losing market share with the hopes to buy one that is easy to find parts for ---though this may always be mail order territory.
