Default LT1 Gear Ratio for WGI - 3.73's ???

I have converted my L98 to an LT1 only to realize the stock 3.33 rear end is too low.

Any recommendations for a 300 rwhp LT1 with 6speed.

With 3.33 I am maxed out in 4th at the backstretch, but too low of rpm for LT1 in the slow sections.

considering either a 3.54 or 3.73 ratio change.

looking to stay between 4000 and 6000rpm 3rd thru 5th.

any first hand recommendations out there??

thanks in advance

If I remember correctly GM installed the 3:54 rear in a few early cars in the 89 model year. The mags that tested them said they got top speed in 6th Vs later tests where they got top speed in 5th with the taller gear. I bet a 3:54 would be just about right. You would be able to shift into 5th on the short straight between 3 and 4 to get a little more speed on the back stretch (300 HP is the limiter here) and would have a little more oomph on the other sections of the track. If you were looking boosting HP and turning rpms up around 6800 I would suggest the 3:73s. On my 97 I would hit right around 137 to 140 in 4th with 3:42 gears and the Z is hitting around 145.
