Default Are the C6 Z06 wheels too big for Track Duty?

I am looking at buying some wheels for track days and the 18x9.5 and 19x12 for 1000 bucks seems like a bargain. Will these work on a stock C6? I'd only be using them at the track so I don't need wider fenders. Is that too much load on the bearings etc?

How many different tire manufacturers make track tires for wheels that size? Tire availability and pricing are the biggest concerns. This is a general problem with all C5/C6 wheel sizes. One of the reasons a lot of people run the 96 GS wheel sizes which are 9.5 x17 and 11 x17. A lot of tires available and scrubs from various race teams.

Won't the C6Z wheels, um, roll the fender lips for you on a non-Z? Isn't the backspacing is all wrong so you'll likely smash the tire into the fender?

For $1000 can't you get 4 C5Z rears? or even SSRs from TireRack?

Maybe you should put your supercharger budget towards some nice CCWs. :-)

No way, I was at Laguna Seca today and watched an LS2 CTS-V having a good time with a magnacharger. Sounded pretty good too, no hood change. Anyway what SSR's?

Check out Tire Rack. Pick a 2002 C5 Z06 and then filter on 18" front wheels. 18x10.5 SSR GT2-H

Oh man, thanks for showing me these. The offsets are a little less than the stock so the rears are going to stick out about an inch but it should be ok. 21lb 19x10.5 rears for 150? Did you see the Comps?

19s have limited choices and big $. 17s are cheap and easy to find in almost every compound.

Given the choice I'm using 18in rears rather than 19in -- you can get tires much more easily, and cheaper, and they'll fit the wheel better. The offset will be a little off, but I can't imagine it being any worse than running four C5Z rears as many C6 guys do.

My plan is CCWs 18x10+18x11 with the correct C6 offset; I've put off the wheel purchase for a while now in an attempt to save up for them... also means I can drive to the event on them without fear of a pothole pushing them into my fender.
