Default Hoosier A3S05 for HPDE?

I saw the Hoosier A3S05s on sale for $480/set. I was thinking of doing the 305/30-18 on all 4 corners. I have 4 rear Z06 rims. That would allow me to swap them around to help balance wear.

Can I fit Hoosier 305/30-18 on them. Reason I ask is Hoosier says 11-12" rim and the Z06 rim is 10.5". My Nitto R2 305/35-18 fit just fine. But someone said something about Hoosier runs bigger than most tires.

Can I run these for HPDE on my 02 Z06 without killing them in 1 weekend? How many 20-25min sessions do you think I could get on them?

My Nitto R2's are lasting a bit longer than most people said. The fronts look pretty good but I killed the rears sliding the car and not having them inflated right. I think I'm going to end up with about 6 weekends on them before the rears cord.

They'll fit fine, but the A compound is for autocross--you'll be sliding around like your on soap after a few laps. Get the R compound if they have them available

i dont know about that. the T1 guys all use A's. they can hold up for 20-30 minutes sessions. they will wear faster though.

ttt....

Anyone else? I'm just trying to compare how fast an A vs R Hoosier will wear on the track. If I can get 4 weekends out of them then it would be worth it.

Any of you T1 guys, comments?

Wally, have you ever tried it?

I got 315-17 AS05's for sale. $250 a set of 4. slightly used by T1 road racer. The A compound work better for road racing. stickier.

yeah, they work great. I buy scrubs, and generally will take whatever is out there. I'd say go for the cheapest set you can find and run them until they're done.

i've put 3 weekends on a used set of A's i got. they had something like 3-4 heat cycles on them when i bought them. They've been pretty solid. I could probably milk a few more weekends out of them.

I run (4) rear Z06 OEM wheels with Hoosier VLR 305 x 18 and they work great. I would consider the R compound, on a hot day they work better and last longer than the autocross compound.

We wore a set of A3S05's to the cord in one day. We Have used one set of R3S04's for 4 of the 5 events in the Great lakes high speed series. The R's were barley down to 3/32's. This included 20-30 minutes of hard practice lapping plus timed runs as well. The A's are faster but if that is not a concern I would certainly buy the r's on clearance. Us and a few others have done it with good results. As a matter of fact the avatar I use is on the R's. Good luck
