Default Presenting the poor man's trans cooler :)

As we all know when running HPDEs in our cars they can sometimes really heat up the transmissions depending on weather and track conditions... this summer My father ran the mazdadrivers VIR Grand event with me and was seeing high trans temp warnings. After that event we swapped the fluid to Amsoil synthetic and saw no high temp readings at the Synergy Racing Fall Fling (but that was in October).

I run Amsoil synthetic ATF in my car and have turbo black ceramic coated exhaust and have never seen a trans overtemp warning, thus we decided to take dad's car one step further.

May I present the poor man's trans cooler

Stock H-pipe removed for EliteEngineering tunnel plate install

Wrapped w/ header wrap and secured with metal zip-ties for the area going under the trans.

Stock plate out

EE plate with thermal barrier in

All done

I like the floors! This is a great mod to any car that goes to the track cooler or not. One little pointer, get the wrap wet, use a bucket. Then wrap as tight as you can. Just a little hint from me.

Not a bad mod for C4's either.

That's inside the house... father brought in 2 saw horses and we did it in the kitchen. I cam down to take my brother to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers concert in Raleigh tonight.

Thanks for the tip... if I ever have to use the wrap again I'll know a better way.

I used the DEI wrap and then sprayed it with the included can of silicon high temp coating. I did from the back of the cats to the input of the mufflers. Without removing the exhaust system!

I have never seen a trans overtemp. I was also at the Mazda drivers event on VIR Grand East. I also ran the Chin event on VIR Full in July. And got in double the track time I would get with a regular DE. No trans overtemp warnings.

Between the synthetic trans/diff fluids and the wrap I believe it does help. It also helps lower the cabin temps.

Ask the guys that raced in the Corvette Challenge in Iowa what they think of header wrap. It was about 100 degrees on a road corse and was completely unsafe to run the cars because the exhaust would have started fires. So we did up a few exhausts at the shop to bring to the track. At tech we got yelled at because it wasn't legal and no one else had enough wrap to do their cars. Lucky Doug thought of that before hand and bought about 10 million feet of header wrap for everyone to use. Most teams were up pretty late wrapping their exhaust, and we were hanging out at the hotel pool

They were bone stock cars and the carpet and crap inside the car could cause a fire to be started.
