Need an R compound that fits 17x9.5 and 17x11's that can be driven to the track.
My father is going to buy silver zr-1 repros 17x9.5 and 17x11 in the 50mm offsets for track use.
I had recommended getting Nitto RIIs or Toyo RA-1s as those would last him a long time, enhance performance over stock tires, and still let him drive to and from the track w/o worrying about trailering or hauling tires like me.
However.. the two tires listed above don't come in a 305 or 315 x 17 rear.
Any tires fit this bill? Can you drive Victoracers on the street or V700's for any length?

Thanks for asking this question...I have been wondering what I should do....
I *may* have a trailer by VIR, and looking to run R compounds....
I have 3 sets of C5 wheels....that is 6 front 17in wheels and 6 18in wheels...I also have a set of standard C4 wheels...17in and a set of C6 wheels...18in front and 19in rear...
I am wondering what is the best configuration for me to run on....17in all the way around or what?
Thanks!
Adam

They are stock sizes...
Not sure of the stock widths, but the standard 245/45/17 and 275/40/18..
The C4 wheels are 255/45-17 front and 285/40-17 rears...
Thanks!

I've been wondering the same question with tires and plus rim sizes.
Are the 18x9.5" greater then 17x9.5" with the same tire?

Another vote for the V700s on those size wheels.
And here's something else to muddy the waters. If your dad wants to go to RA-1s (not as grippy up front, but grip til the end), he can get a set of wagon wheels and run 275/305, almost the same width as the ZR-1 repos run (275/315). Plus, with the 275/315 setup I get a fair amount of understeer, with the 275/305 I now have a small amount of understeer on corner exit.
HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

I have been running the Kumho V 700's for about a year and a half now and love them; the V 710's are great too. I have, on the current set of V 700's, 500-1K street miles with no problems at all. I am looking to go with a larger rim soon and may try the Nitto NT01's, but I haven't heard to much about these...

I would put the nitto RII's on the front as 275's and I would put nitto drag radials on the back at 315's, if some street driving is desired outside of the going to and from the track.
I used RII's for a year autocrossing and as my street tire. They have a really nice feel, and absorbed a lot of vibration in my car which has a very stiff suspension.

They're the same tire. I used to drive 'em to the track and they work well. I also had a set of Yoko A03Rs and they didn't work as well. Also, they had major tread noise on the road.

I'm in the same situation as your dad. I don't have a trailer or way to haul extra wheels/tires for road course driving either, so I drive to the tracks (usually not more than 2 hours away) on my Hoosier slicks (non DOT legal)!
Those of us who drive to the track on our track tires seem to have to make a sacrifice somewhere: no rain tires (although running with slicks in the rain is great practice ), a little more wear on on track tires from driving them on the street, having to be a bit more careful driving on the street with slicks. Only if they're calling for 100% rain on a one day event will I drive in on my street tires.
For longer events, like 3 day ones, I'll admit I've had to either have friends bring extra sets of wheels and/or tires to the track for me.
Another option for a longer event if you can't bring tires might be to see if a pro tire changing company might be at the event. They can flip the tires on the rims when wear occurs and I think you can sometimes even order tires ahead for yourself so they bring them to the track for you and change them there for you.
Hope your dad enjoys himself!!

A word of caution on driving R-compounds to the track. Check the tires carefully before driving at speed. The sticky rubber and lighter construction make them more prone to puncture or damage. Twice I had to patch tires before competing in autocrosses I had driven to on Rs.
