Default Here is how you lose 28lbs of unsprung weight.

All while gaining 120mm of tire.

Went with a Hoosier 285/305 setup on 18x9.5 and 18x10.5 SSR forged wheels.

The rears are a little over 10 pounds lighter each while gaining 1/2 wheel and an inch of rubber. Fronts were only 4 lbs but understandable since the wheels are a full inch wider and the tires are inch and a half.

These results are not scientific as I just used a regular scale.

Can you fit a 285 series18" tire on a C6? What profile (30, 35, 40) and what offset are you using? I'd like to use an 18x10 or 18x10.5 wheel on the front. What model of SSR? Thanks!

Search C5 Z06 on tire rack and you'll see em with the offsets listed. Totally discounted GT2s I went with. I like the Race version too but a little to importy(is that a word) for my USA C6

Any pics on the car? Glad the SSR pointer worked out for you! I'm jealous, I just don't think I'll have a way to get those tires places without driving on them!

Not yet but I just picked up a Husky air compressor with impact wrench and 3/8 rachet etc etc. So maybe I'll throw em on there, good excuse to ziiinnnnnnnnn ziiiiiiinnnnnnnn

Thanks for the tip though, worked out perfect. Actually since the offsets are slightly different I should mount em up.

Probably a really stupid question but...If I replace the front brakes with say the Wilwood 6 piston set up can I move the fronts to the rear?

THe stock wheels and tires. Nice on the SSRs, i would like to see them mounted up as well just to see what the offsets look like. What offsets did you end up going with?

stockers weigh a ton.

Just imagine what a lightweight racing clutch can do. Save 40lbs spinning at ENGINE speed (3-10x wheel speed), and reduce the MOI by about 80%.

For what it's worth, the weight savings won't do a thing compared to the extra grip the tires will give you.

Race clutch != Daily Driver or even Drive to Event, though. :-)

Unless somebody makes a nice light flywheel for use with the stock [ie. durable] clutch...

Wholly fender gap Batman. The rears stick out a tiny bit and the fronts are pretty much flush, maybe out 2mm. I tried to lower it on the stock bolts but I couldn't get a rachet around the bolt. Doing it with a wrench is going to take forever.

Which Hoosiers did you get? I didn't see a 305mm Hoosier A6/R6 when I was looking.

As for lowering, don't forget the 285/30r18 is already an inch shorter than your stock 245/40r18 which makes the gap look that much worse, but you're frame is already that much closer to the ground...

He might have purchased the VLR Hoosier which is available in 305 x 18, I run them on my '89 on all (4) corners with OEM Z06 wheels & they work great.

Oh I went with the discounted hoo hoos, the AS305s for 120 each on the hoosier website. free shiping.

Under 500 for brand new hoosiers you can't beat it. Yeah they prolly won't last as long as the Rs but at less than half the cost who cares. Plus I'll try and baby the tires. One warm up, then a hot lap, then cool down for a minute in the hot pits, check the temps.

Speaking of AS305s anyone know the upper limit of tire temps? Like should I stop if they're over 230F?

any saving in unsprung weight is great!

and the extra grip your going to get is going to make for one fast car around the track!

Chris.
