Best trackable street tire?
I am not ready to run R compounds yet, so which tire will give me the best dry performance. Wet performance is unimportant. I've read all the reviews, but they don't use C5 ZO6 like I have. Eventually, I'll run Hoosiers, but for now I want the steetable tire that will provide the shortest braking and quickest laps. Goodyear, BFG, Michelin PS2, Kumho............or?

I run the Kumho Ecsta MX on my 87 (275/40-17) for summer driving and for track days. They have excellent grip once they are warmed up (about 2 laps) and will give enough warning before losing grip. For the money, they are well worth it. They are quiet on the street and even have enough grip when cold for autocross use.
The BF Goodrich KD is an excellent dry pavement tire but they are pretty pricey.

I used to run KD's. The old Michelin Pilot MXX was the only tire that came close to it. The new MPS is probably a good second choice.
Toyo RA1 might be a good in between tire. Fairly high TWR and almost race grip on the track.
If you never run or drive in the rain, the choice is just economics. Which tire gives the most miles per dollar along with high grip.

It might also depend on what you mean by streetable. I run Kumho MXs
on a coupe for street, all the time and track. There are better tires,
more $ too, that have enough tread to run to the track and back but
I don't think I'd want to run them around town. The NT01 for sure.
BTW, the MX is not in the latest Tire Rack ad in GRM but they now
have the V710 and an Ecsta SPT. Is this something new replacing the
MX? Kumho is also running an ad for an Ecsta AST.

I just posted this in Fi
Michelin Pilot Sport Cups - R-Compound - DOT approved
There is a reason that you will find these tires on the 07 Turbo 911 and BMW M3 CSL. By far one of the best street/track tires I have used. They are my DD tires and were also my rain tires for the track. They take some time to heat up, but once the temp gets up they stick to the road. might not stick as much as a DR, but I will guarantee they outhandle the DRs in the turns and if it is raining it is a no brainer.

Thanks, everyone. I am going to run this car(02 ZO6) for the first time in HPDE this coming week and the car currently has MX's. I've been able to break them loose easily on the street, so I was having doubts about their effectiveness. From the feedback, I guess they just take a while to warm up. I'll try them and see how I feel after they are good and warm.

For the regular C5, the fastest HPDE tire would be the BFG KD, for the Z06 the Goodyear F1's are the fastest. We run 6-8 timed events in the Great Lakes areas, and these are what the fastest drivers run, also the Goodyear GS D3 are second best for the C5. MX's, PS2, RA1 are below these.

No way the F1 is stronger than the RA1 at the track. The RA1 is an R comp.
MX's are good, I've been happy with them, as well as the PS2's.

Yes, a press release in Autoweek a few weeks ago mentioned the MX would be changed but it indicated the name would stay the same.
I asked Arron but being in the racing division he didn't have any information.
Best advise it to call Tire Rack and ask the salesman. They have the latest info from the manufacturers.
