Here you go. The upright is welded to the main bar that runs behind the rear facia. You can also use the upright as a jacking point and lift the whole rear of the car at once, just like you'd do if you put the jack under the rear cross member.

You're right, those boys have welded a bunch of stuff for me.
But no, I didn't do this. Henry Gilbert built the car a few years ago so I guess he's the one who thought of it.
We did change the tow hook in front. David Farmer was pretty creative in how he did it. He used a steel cable and wrapped it around the frame behind the front facia and brought it out right above the steel mesh cutout in the front. He made it into a loop. You can't hurt yourself if your run into it with your shins since it's flexible, yet it's extremely strong. I'll post some pictures of that when I get the car off of the lift this weekend.

Look forward to seeing the front one. Trying to figure out how to put one up front.

Sort of looks like the GM Export tow hook. They have them for front and rear. Probably the Phoenix ones would be lower cost and easier to mount.

we could probably do the same thing in the front, although that would require removing the nose. I did the steel cable on Jody's car, and on the C5, it is pretty easy to have it come out in a safe, unobtrusive location. I haven't done one on a C6 nose, but I'm sure it could be done similarly.
btw, this was during the install, I taped it up and made look prettier. There is room in that hole for the cable to "give" some flexibly if towed. It comes out pretty much dead even with the top of the frame rail, so unless you are being towed from a very steep upward angle, it shouldn't damage the facia.
In other words, if you are buried so deep that the cable would damage the facia, you've probably already destroyed the facia.
