Default need help tuning A4 for road course events

Hello and thank you for reading. I have a 1999 c5 that I track with an A4 tranny. I have a Predator handheld tuner, and have made good progress with it, as well as a tranny cooler. I still have unacceptable shift performance when going from 2 to 3 upshifting only. I don't have any other complaints than this.

What is the best way to shorten the duration of the 2-3 upshift significantly, a shift kit? A transmission shop? A tuner?

thanks, all input is appreciated.

Manually shift the auto. That is what we teach guys with automatics.

Oh I do that, but the 2-3 shift is still too slow. Maybe something is wrong with my trans already? But the 1-2 and the 3-2 shift are fine, it's just the 2-3 shift that doesn't get it for me.

I get the same thing, I was thinking it may be a setting on revs or something. Check out this link:

Post here if you figure anything out.

You can get it to shift faster but it's going to only be harder on the transmission itself. I'm no expert but I believe it's rev matching the engine to the new gear. That's what takes a second. I had much better success when at the track if I put it in third way before I needed to shift. I think it gives the tranny a chance to be "ready" when the opportunity to shift arises. If you're waiting til redline not only will it take a long time to shift but it takes time to react to the shift as well. Again I'm no expert so take it with a grain of salt.

back in '05 i wrote up something about how to set your A4 for road racing application. i'm not sure if it applies to you, as i don't think predator can adjust partial throttle shift points, but the main idea should be there.

A shift kit like transgo will help, but it is still a slow shift, especially when manually triggered. Best bet is to talk to a trans builder lke RPM, FLP etc about it, but it will likely take a built trans to fix it.

thanks, I just bought a transgo kit, and I will see how that helps.

It doesn't have anything to do with rev matching, as far as I can tell. The 3-2 downshift works great and fast and rev matching the engine from that is far more work than the 2-3 upshift.

I say a very good tuner and some test drives..............our stock 00' coupe + CAI/FLP LTs & CATBACK has an awsome tune from Steve Cole via a T.T.S. PLII.........a mail order tune at that, but I did talk to him at length 1st and tell him my use and what I wanted. We have nice quick firm shifts in D or manually.......a few instructors have commented best shifting Auto they have been in. 50K hard miles and still going strong........

I lowered the rpm and mph shift points with my Predator, and the WOT shift time for the 2-3 upshift did shorten in duration...getting warmer...

I'm going to try that T.T.S. PLII tuner from Steve and see what he says about the difference between the Predator and his tuner... thanks ATNB.

ECS did my tune and I still can't get used to how fast and crisp the shifts are.
