A3S05 Hoosiers
Can someone tell me how these older model Hoosiers compare to the current replacement and the V710? I'm looking to use them for AutoX.

Melting Slicks
Significantly slower on some surfaces and only marginally slower on really slick surfaces.........the real problem is with all of the previous Hooiser products on heavy cars is durability, especially on camber challenged cars such as the C4. They will get the "groove of doom" and cord prematurely on the shoulders, things that have been fixed with the current Hoosiers. Kumhos didn't have these "issues". The Kumhos are marginally slower (imho) than the A6 Hoosier , but are somewhat more affordable. Both are fast , and are more durable than the previous Hoosiers.

My profile still shows the C4 (which is still in the garage), but I was thinking to use these on a 04 Z06. Sounds like hte down side is the wear. Are they even worse on the Z06 than a C4????

They wil wear better on the C5 stock vs stock......The C5 is not camber challenged as is the C4....The Kumhos and the A6's are significantly faster though.

OK, well it looks like there OK for the C5, but only OK. Better than running a street tire but giving up some time to the 710 and 06. Maybe a good practice tire, but not an event tire, Sound right???

A6's can to tolerate lower pressures than the S05's, assuming you have the camber required to prevent rollover. S05's often had to be 'aired up' a little more to control the shoulder wear.

My thought was to use two different set of tires, one as a "practice" set the other for "competition" events. How different would the car feel with the same setup if I swap between the older hoosier and my 710's?
Just trying to stretch my tire dollar. Maybe using some 710 scrubs from folks would be an option as well.

RagTop, I guess the wear on these is just so bad on that leading edge that it might not be worth the trouble based on your data. I seem to be "nice on tires" but I'm not sure I'm that nice.

I have a set of A3S04's on my 87 and I start with 42psi in front and 36 in back. I run a chalk line across the tread and shoulder to see how the edges are contacting and adjust pressure from there.

I corded a set of A3S05's last year in twelve hard laps, guess the weren't that great of a bargin for me
Maybe I'm just too fast for hoosiers

L98Terror, I hope those were laps of America :-) Seriously was this a HPDE event and what course, or AutoX?
Either way doesn't look good for the A3S05's.

If I remember correctly it was practice for an NCCC high speed at Grattan. To add to the discussion we did the same thing at Gingerman last year. A set that was almost brand new and we corded two tires in one day. We were running 37 lbs of air too! We had about 1.8 degrees of negative at that point as well. If you could find scrub A6's I think you would be better from a monitary standpoint as well as performance.
Good Luck,
Al

Well it doesn't look like brand new A3S05's at $100/$120 f/r is a good value based on tis kind of feedback. I'll look for something else.
Thanks all.

Guess I'll have to find out the hard way. I just yeasterday ordered, and paid for, a set of the A3so5s. Hopefully they'll be faster than the grand am cup hoosier scrubs I've been using for autox.
I'm also running 1.6deg neg camber square
1/4 toe out in front, 1/4 toe in rear.
6 deg pos cas
I'll find out next weekend....
