Default C4 trailered track car: need opinions on what to do on the front end...

where the front license plate goes. Would I better off putting the license plate cover on to keep the aero shape or cutting a hole in that area and covering with mesh to let more air into the engine compartment?

Thoughts?

I plan to cut mine completely open and use the stock air filter housing with a cut lid. That should give the engine plenty of cold air to breathe.

I also plan to open up the gill panels or fenders to allow more air out of the engine compartment. I may even eventually add some hood vents.

I don't have any results on if that mod helps. I have a vented front plate and could test it some if you have any ideas on how to. It's very cold here yet though. I put the vented plate in, cut out the bumper, then bent my cut lid down into a scoop shape to pick up the air. Running a tube to it may be better. I also did the cut cowl seal mod. The car runs cool at the track. Here is a picture:

I already have the cut lid and was thinking the same thing, especially since the ram air systems for C4s usually use that area as an intake as shown above by Aardwolf. Without a direct duct to the airbox it's probably not as efficient but it can't hurt.

From a hp standpoint it's probably minimal but I think an engine temp impact would be bigger.

As far as testing: the next track day run one session with it taped up or otherwise solidly covered and run a session to see what the water and oil temps are. Then on the next session open it up and repeat. I'd try to do two sessions in the middle of the day so you don't get early AM or late PM temp differences influencing results so much.

My next track day isn't till April 15th so it will be a while yet. Last year I was surprised the car ran so cool, 185° coolant and 195° oil. I am installing a trans. temp. gauge now.

A tube would help with the air flow a little I think. When you cut away the egg crate behind the plate there is a small chamber, then you must hole saw through the fibre bumper, this enters into the engine bay just below the air filter. From memory there is only about 2" from the hole to the filter for the air to disfuse to the sides. I thought of adding a tube for that part. There are kits for that but they cost way to much. The cutting that is done is easy to hide if the car needs to be back to stock.

I should have two years ago when I put in poly bushings, a camber brace, the open air box and started running a square setup with a non Z07 suspension ... I was just too lazy.

I did the hole in the bumper mod.
It's a least a 1/10th in the 1/4 mile.
It's worth it

Remove cover plate, cut through cover, cut out honeycomb and drill two 3" diameter holes through fiberglass bumper support to get fresh air to intake. see my avatar

Cool, thanks. I had already completely removed my seal. I didn't thing about the fact it would suck air in at higher speeds.
