Autocross Season starting up at Mineral Wells!
The BMW group I autocross with has our first event out at Mineral Wells on March 10th. A great group of folks to race with, lots of open spaces to lose control in and not worry about your car, big courses, open enough for fast sections and always cones for slow stuff!
8 timed runs per event plus fun runs at the end of the day.
Last year we had a surge in Vette participation towards the end of the year; sure would like to see that continue this year!
Email me if you're interested, and I'll send you the particulars.
Have a good one,
Mike

I went out with the BMW group last year for the last event and had a blast. Mike's a great guy and really helped me out as a beginner! I've already signed up and plan to run the entire season with this group.

Mainly a bump back to the top.
We've got three Vettes signed up so far: myself, jtkeller, and a '79 (rotgirl, is that you?)
Justin, do you know if Jeff is going to make it?
Y'all have a good one,
Mike

If it were on a Sunday I would at least drop by for a visit. The engine is out of the Vette at the moment because it blew at MSR. It should be running in about a week or less. I'm putting the new engine in today, hopefully. Mike, someday we'll get together and meet face to face.

To date there are 24 cars signed up: 6 are BMWs, 9 are either Mustangs or Vettes!
A buddy of mine that normally runs with us probably won't be there, as he found a pinhole leak in the fuel line that runs from the fuel filter to the engine compartment. He kept smelling gas fumes, thought it could be the filter, then finally found it spraying right around the exhaust manifold! GM says it could take up to 30 days to get a new one.
See y'all Saturday.

For everybody waiting to see if the weather is going to hold out or not, there's only a 10% chance of rain on Saturday and there's still time to register!

It was a blast!!!
Well, our first event was a blast; non-BMW cars outnumbered the Bimmers about 2-1.
The course was a bit easier than usual, but a LOT of fun. I got to check out my new video camera and microphone; I've got to stabilize the camera from rolling and need to dial down the gain on the mic somehow.
Here's my very first Youtube video:

This is my 4th run of the day, the last of the morning heat. During the afternoon runs I never got close to my morning times, I didn't bleed the tires back down (I usually don't) and the change in ambient temps from morning to afternoon I think kept the pressures up. As they say, it's a learning experience.
Next event is on April Fools day at the TMS bus lot!
Have a good one,

And here's a quick video of what happens when you go a bit wider and get some gravel on your tires.

This also shows one of the great advantages to running at MW. The HUD (barely visible at Youtube qualities) shows an entry speed of about 77 on my best run (the first vid); this one was right at 80. A nice, noisy slide, put her back in 1st and continue on.
Have a good one,
