Trailers
Hi, I'm thinking about getting a small trailer to pull behind my vette to carry race tires to the track. What brand do you guys like, where do you get them, etc..? Any options/accessories to watch out for or make sure I get?

Just got a put-it-together-yourself model from Harbor Freight. Don't get one with the 8" tires; go for the 12" tires.
Here are a few pics from other drivers with similar trailers:
As for needed accessories, you can get a plastic "toughbox", footlocker or the like from Wal-Mart, CostCo or similar. This one is from Lowes ($49) -
You'll also find other misc. items for securing tires on the trailer, etc. from the same local hardware stores (Home Depot, Lowes, etc.)
I would have loved to find this one (see http://www.bombaydigital.com/boxster/projects/trailer/ ), but I don't think the company is in business anymore. I don't know what the price was, but it seems way more expensive than the HF do-it-yourself set-up.
This one from S&S Trailers http://www.sstrailers.com/index.htm ...
... or one from Trailex http://www.trailex.com/viewprod.cfm?...t=88&cat_id=88 ...
... are pretty much pre-made, but cost about $1400.
BTW and as of 7 Mar 07, prices for an appropriate Class-I hitch for the C5 at various outlets were:
- http://www.ecklers.com - $201.71
- http://www.etrailer.com - $153.79
- http://www.hitches-forless.com - $141.27
- http://www.drawtite-hitches.com or http://www.hitchfinder.com/ (they seem to both use the same "shopping cart") - $163.48

The Harbor Freight trailer is a good choice and doesn't cost a lot. You can find them on sale on occasion on th eHF website and in the stores. This is the one you want: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=90153 It comes with the 12" wheels and while it comes in a box, it only takes about an hour to assemble with a couple of sockets.
This is my tire trailer:
I used a half sheet of 3/4" plywood for the deck and picked up a HF trailer tongue dolly so I can easily move it around. I did change the coupler to a 2" ball type so I can tow it behind my truck.
One word of caution on the HF trailer, the bearings do not hve a lot of grease in them. You will want to pull the bearings, clean them and re-grease with a good wheel bearing grease.

Just for what it's worth... Before you go thru the "nut-roll" of buying a small trailer that you can tow behind your vette, please consider getting a truck/trailer combo that you can tow your vette with. You can pick up a good used diesel truck and used trailer for a lot cheaper than you'd think (under $20K). You'd be able to carry all your stuff safely and have the insurance/assurance that you could get your car home if something breaks. It's worth it's weight in gold especially when you've decided to upgrade to racing tires and wheels.
