Default C3 Autocrosser

Finally got out to auto-x this weekend. Totally new look for the car. A few bugs to work out. Looking forward to VIR North in April.

Cool! I like the new paint! How'd it run? New wheels too?

Have to love those C3's

Do any of you with lowered C3's have a problem getting it on the trailer?
My front center dammer got torn to heck from scrapping.
What negative camber do you have in the back? I have -1.5 but yours looks more severe

Sometimes if the angle of the ground is just right my bellhousing will just scrape the rear cross beam of my trailer. Try putting some 2x12 boards under the ends of your ramps to reduce the angle a bit.

I've gone to the point of bringing car ramps and driving the back tires of the truck up to reduce the angle I'm thinking I will need boards as well maybe if it's a longer ramp ...might help a bit

Default What offset do you run for 17" wheels on a '79?

Rotgirl is running a '79 with a stock suspension, and during our last autocross her husband was wondering what offsets would work for some 17" wheels; he's having a time finding decent rubber for his stock 15" wheels.

Or, should he look at going with 16" wheels? That would fit up with the F-body crowd.

TIA, and have a good one,
Mike

Offsets will depend on the wheel width they want to use, but Mr. and Mrs. Rotgirl should be looking for wheels with around 4" backspace. I wouldn't bother with 16's, there's not too many more performance options for those than there are 15's. I'm assuming they still want to stay on street tires, but whether they go 16's or 17's they'll be out of stock class so they should just go for 17's.

Thanks for the info, I'll make sure it gets to them. Just to make sure I give them good info, when you use the term "backspace", is that the measurement from the outer rim to the centerline?

Have a good one,
Mike

Mike,

No, backspace is the measurement from the inner rim flange to the wheel mounting face. Check out the link, it describes the measurement and the differences between backspace and offset measurement.

I gave up finding 15 or 16 inch tires and in the end went with flares and larger diameter wheels.

Hey guys!

We ended up getting getting Kumho V700 Victoracer 245s for the front and 255s for the back. Have to get adaptors so won't be able to use them until next weekend.

Gonna see you on Saturday Mike?

rg,

Unfortunately no; Cowtown told me my son was not invited because he doesn't race a Vette. I'll stop now before the begins...

I'll be up at the TMS bus lot with the BMW group April 1st. Not as open and fast as MW, but still a bunch of fun.

Have a good one,
Mike

rotgirl, I have a set of adapters I've been trying to sell, 2.25" and 2.5" from VBP (the good ones, not cheap ebay adapters). They are ready to go, let me know if you're interested.

VetteDrmr, I hear you........I'll work on getting that changed for next year.

My husband was even more PO'd when he found out he couldn't run his 2006 3/4-ton Dodge 4x4.

(He had that bad habit of turning around and running over corner workers that said he'd hit a cone).

Didn't send in my Cowtown entry form cause the &^%$#@ weather men said it would rain. Guess I will drive the Z06 out and see how the competition is running.
