What is the motor in that? Did it feel light at that speed?

Sounds like a lot of fun.

Do you need a cage, and/or fire suppression system, or anything else to run?

Yes - depending on speed...

Sonny congrats on the run, your recovery and the Hot Rod pick!

i do have doug rippie headers in this beast... i could stand to have 1 nice set of 1 7/8 but i don't think you guys make one... do ya?

thanks for all the comments, guys! it was a ton of fun, and i should be able to go much faster at the next event (may 19-20th), maybe 215mph or so. that's the goal anyway.

Well you have a good header. We don't make a 1 7/8th setup for the C4's. I wasn't kidding about the mirrors.

I had to maintain my standing as a street legal car for the Hot Rod Magazine Top Speed Shoot Out... and I think a street legal car is required to have at least the driver's side rear view mirror. I should have enough HP to meet my speed calculations if I just get into the NOS in 4th instead of just in the top of 5th, so I might try it with mirrors first, and if I don't have enough power to overcome my drag ratio, then I'll take them off and see how much difference it makes. I also had my exhaust butterfly valves closed, but will open them when not running in the TSC.

I only have to be able to get to 7200rpm's to get to about 217mph from what I can see on http://www.f-body.org/gears/. That's with my 26" tire on a ZF6 trans, with about 7200rpm... anybody get anything else?

Where have you run without mirrors to say that it would make that much of a difference? Do the little C4 mirrors have that much effect on the drag ratio?

Thanks!
Sonny

hey guys,
it's an LT4 motor that has been bored and stroked to 409ci. only LT motor that i know of that is a 409. there was a guy in one of the mags that had a 421 or something like that, but he blew it up later that year. i've got a little info about my setup on my profile, if you want to check it out.

it felt fine at speed. just felt about the same as 80mph, nice and stable, only moving a lot faster.

Not necessarily! On some cars the drag can go up! ( Impalas and Caprices )

There was a great writeup of a wind tunnel test in HotRod.
They're setting a top speed record.
They reduced the Cd from .3 to .201!
The 1st part is online, back when they had a different engin in it, a real good read.

Not having a wind tunnel, you can find a flat road and try a cruise down test.

yeah, about that... about 600hp NA at the flywheel.

that white camaro is keith turk's car, and i know him well. he's the race director of the ECTA. some of the classes that he is running in don't require streetable equipment like the Hot Rod Mag Top Speed Challenge does. i'd love to have that car if he was gonna give it to me... but i don't have the money that it is worth, that's for sure.

there are some posts here on the forum that might do a better job of describing what my injuries were in dec... if you wanna search under my name. and it's not something that i want to drag people into that don't wanna know... but i can vouch for the forum familiy and their wishes and caring about me.

wow, this video is one of the "top viewed videos" for the week on putfile.com

i also just posted a out-of-car starting line video under the same sonny_0000000 account, if you care to look it up. next time i'll try to get somebody to take one out-of-car from the finish line so that i can post it and have a different perspective to show you.
