Default Alignment Effect - 17" to 18" Front Wheels

I get my car aligned with 17" street wheels on the front.

I run 18" front wheels at the track.

What effect, if any, does this have on my alignment during track usage?

BTW, I run 18" on the rear for street and track.

It's not the size of the wheel that's important. It's the size of the tire.

If you go from a 275/45-17 tire to a 275/35-18, then the outer diameter of the tire doesn't change (only a couple millimeters), so your alignments should be unaffected.

Street: 265/40/17; Dia: 25.4"

Track: 275/35/18; Dia: 25.6"

Seems insignificant to me.

I thought it would be a bigger difference in diameter. Just never looked before.

Thanks.

Rick

I calculate the same diameters you did, So I would say that there will be some difference in the alignment (my guess is just the caster), but not a very significant difference. I don't think you could feel the difference at all.

I'm NOT an alignments expert. Take what I tell you with a grain of salt...

Bob,

I just looked up the specs on the rears:

Street: GY Supercar 295/35/18; Dia. 26.1

Track: Toyo RA1 305/35/18; Dia. 26.3

This gives me a consistent 0.2 higher front and rear going from street to track. Makes me think I'll have pretty much the same alignment whether on my street or track tires.

Thanks for the help.

Rick
