Default Need Help on Kumho Tire Size

I am looking to buy a set of Kuhmo V710s for my Z06 for autocrossing this season. I have stock size rims but the only size tires I see available on Tire Rack are 315/35ZR18 for the rear and either 275/40ZR17 or 295/40ZR17 for the front. Can somebody help with the proper combination that will still fit in the wheel wells as well as preserve diameter ratios front to rear to not hose up the active handling? Thanks in advance for the help.

They'll all fit. The Kumho guys seem to like a 275 on the front and the Hoosier guys like the 295s. NP with the AH with any of them.

Jay, do yourself a favor and buy a set of Hoosier A6s. You will be faster than the Kumho 710s. My co-driver and I used 710s for two seasons and are now back to the Hoosiers.

295 in the front, 315s in the rear.

I did the 275/315 and liked 'em too, but I guess if you can do the 295s all the better.

Thanks for all the help on the sizes everyone. Are the Hoosier A6s really that much faster and do they wear out any sooner?

dont the hoosiers also require a lot more negative camber than the kumhos which may be an issue for track/street cars?

I ran the A6s successfully on my C5Z at -1.5 front and -1.2 rear camber.

My C6Z likes -2.0 front and -1.5 rear.

YMMV,

Yes they are a better auto-x tire, BUT not nearly as good of a road race tire. Auto-x never builds the heat in the 710's like the road course does.

thanks Frank I actually stayed away from the Hoosiers because of the camber issue, but if it isnt much of an issue then I will give them a shot.

Frank(and others), maybe you can give me some advice on the Hoosiers on a C6Z06 that is lowered on stock bolts, i.e., SCCA Solo Class SS legal. I was planning on running the 345's on the rear on OEM wheels, but have seen it aluded to on one of the forums that the 345's rub the fenders. Can you comment on that?

Also, are your camber settings you like for the track or autocross?

Thanks, Philip

(Sorry if I am keeping us off topic on Hoosier instead of Kumho. I wish Kumho had a fitment, but I am eager to try Hoosiers)

For racing and HPDEs the recommended Hoosier is the R6. Ran those last year at HPDEs in My C6Z. Outstanding tire also.

Depending on how much negative camber your car has the 345s MAY rub the inner rear fender (some cars do, others don't). One solution for SCCA autoX is to use 1/4" spacers (the thickest legal spacers you can use,in SCCA stock classes) and longer studs.

If you have lots of money, you can have CCW make you wheels with the 1/4" offset built in.

I wonder why you lowered your car. The suspension/steering geometry gets all screwed up when you lower the car. Mine rides at stock height.

Good luck on your events.

Older Hoosier designs (prior to the Z6/R6) NEEDED a lot of negative camber. If you didn't have it, they would wear the outside shoulder down to the cords in just a few runs.

Hoosier learned that lesson and corrected the problem in the A6/R6 design.

I ran A6's last season on my C5 Z06 with both my son and I running so the tires got double duty. Made a combined 110 runs on a single set of A6's before I corded the front tires. To say the least I was impressed and that was with a street alignment. I have never run Kumho's so I can comment on their wear but I really liked the A6s.
