Cosworth's F1 secrets reveiled
Since Cosworth was not chosen to be an F1 engine provider this year. They let racecar engineering take a look at their V10 engine, and how they pull +20,000rpm. Sorry, you'll have to pick up an issue to see the photos but they're worth it! Cross sections of all critical areas, photos of the pistons crank, the pneumatic springs for the valves, etc.
I never would have thought to install the cams like that!

That's a pretty cool article. That is a rather interesting cylinder head design, indeed. Do you like how the ports are virtually a straight shot? And the con rods are basically triangles. The stroke is so short they hardly need any skirt to rod clearance.

I wasn't expecting followers for the camshaft. They must spin the cams in opposite directions. They would have kept it for the V8 except for the CoG ruling. I like how only certain parts of the engine are frozen, so they designed it in such a was as to be able to change stuff.

Race Tech has pretty much the same article....interesting bottom line is you can build the best race engine and still have other factors that keep you from winning. It will be good when that technology trickles down to other manufactures.
