Default ATE blue from January

During the winter, I was bored; so I completely flushed my brake system with ATE blue. The car sat in the garage ever since, not even a test drive.

now, it's almost May, and I have a track event coming up.
Do you think the fluid is still good ??

I figure it got to be as good as any fluid in a plastic container, since the master is plastic.

what ya think ????

Hmmmm...1 hour (or less) of your time. $10 worth of fluid. Peace of mind.....

It's probably ok. However I'd bleed it, but that's just me

Oh God, not again?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??! I'm starting to think some guys start threads like this just to see if anybody is gullible enough to fall for the question.

OK I'll bite...... the DAMN fluid is fine and 5 years from now it will be fine and probable five years after that will be fine. It's freakin' brake fluid.

And yes I know all about water absorption, blah, blah, blah,

Rick

IMHO, unless you left the cap off the master cylinder and live in an area with 95% humidity most of the time, you should be fine with the fluid. I've run ATE Super Blue in a variety of cars over the years, change it in the spring and it's still fine in the fall. You should be fine with it now and through the whole season. But if you're ****, do a quick bleed.

It should be perfectly fine. I'd just bleed the brakes to be sure.

My question is.. Why doesn't ATE Blue and Amber make Green?

What does that have to do with the question or with rikhek's comment

because he says 5 year old fluid is fine, and we all know 5 year old fluid will boil after 2 laps.

I'd run it! I bring fluid to the track, if there were an issue I would change it there, it's quick to do!

My vote is also "it's fine but bleed them".

Just ran Mid-Ohio last weekend on year-old superblue, no boiling, no problems...and yes I use the brakes hard. Got mild fade (with Brembo big brake kit) on one of the faster sessions, but not due to fluid boiling, just hot pads. They came right back next session without a bleed.

I did boil fluid prior to switching to Super Bluea couple years ago. I now purge the calipers every 3 track days. With him having put no heat to the fluid in the calipers there's no need to even bleed.

I've found 8-10 pumps to the calipers every 3 track days keeps a constant supply of good fluid in the system.

I'm really wondering if I should change the air in my tires. It's been in there for over a year and smells stale.

Rick
