Default Funny Excuses for going OFF

Ok guys. We all know what great and wonderful story tellers we are ( read ers) what are some of the excuses you gave to the track officials or chief instructor for going off?

- Mine were:

The Alan Wilson ( track designer) just did not put pavement where I was driving.

My tires abilty to grip just did not keep up with my cornering abilties

The last time I took that turn on fresh tires was on the fall equinox.

the "Alan Wilson" excuse is certainly valid IMHO. He's a great PR guy (set up the whole World Challenge standing start/formation-flag lap scenario), track designer...not so much.

Well the last one was " I was watching the Porsche in the rear view" which really wasn't funny because I drove over a pot hole that nearly swallowed half the car and broke the hell out of the rear end.
The other was "The sun was in my eyes and the pea gravel looked just like the pavement just less grip."

Oh thanks a lot all you beer swilling, brat eating, guage gawking, agricultural driving so and so's!

I just got to the track (RA) and logged on and saw this. I got a good laugh and thought, "well at least I won't have to post about my off track event--that's old news."

Well I should of know! You all cursed me! I just was out in the parking lot and these guys come up and go "there's the big blow up car" from last year. That's what I get for laughing at your stories!

Hopefully you won't start at thread asking about how many black flags folks have gotten or if any of us have any special rituals or superstitions!

I think we had a thread last winter about rituals and what we do before we go out for a race or session, and then what we forgot.

Like spending 15 min checking the oil, air pressure, lug nut torque, cleaning the windshield, straping in, checking the gagues, then going out only to realise you have no fuel as you exit the pit lane . . .. .

My personal favorite is getting in, getting the HANS on, getting the harnesses set just right and tightened down, adjusting the seat to get it perfect, helmet on, HANS attached to it, gloves on.....and then realizing I didn't close my door . First time I did it I unstrapped and closed it myself, but I've done it a couple of times since then as well....now I just yell for someone to close it

I did the "Nascar Experience" at Pocono Raceway and on one of my laps there was a groundhog on the track. He was up against the wall as you come out of turn one.

I thought about drifting up towards him, but didn't know what would happen at 130 + or to the slicks

For some odd reason he wasn't there next lap

I forgot to turn.

http://www.grattanraceway.com/thetrack.html

Not me but a guy who runs at my events and instructs.

He is a good driver, very safe...turbo Miata about 250rwhp and very light.

He was coming from turn 10 upto 11(see map above). Now this is uphill, totally blind, when you reach the crest you turn to the right, through a dip on the inside of 12.

Well, he drove up the hill...and kept going....never turned.

Into the gravel, slowed him enough and he bumped the guard rail.

He just said...I forgot to turn....no one goes off there, its totally impossible...unless you forget to turn the wheel

"I was trying a different line"

"My gloves were too tight"

My trailer teacher said "find the limit when no one else is around"

My instructor did infact agree, yup it does take 2-3 laps to get 345/35/18 street tire sticky enough to take that corner that fast"
