[Pictures]rolling over in hardtop M3
I thought that I would link this;
http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=159517
A roll over in an M3, it doesn't look pretty at all. I know it's a much different car than the c5, but I wanted to illustrate how little protection some hardtops (coupes) offer in a rollover situation. I know that topic has come up on occasion in this forum.

I know that intrechange and I can tell you that kid was going at least 125mph to sail that far off... What kind of dumbell would post pics of an embarrasing wreck like that? "Look at me , I am the stupidest BMW guy in the world!" What a dope
You have to think his friends were lucky they weren't riding in the right seat...
Here is a picture of the interchange on Google maps... look how gentle the turn is and how far it is to the rail... I do that one in a Suburban with one hand at 70 without drama...

From 2007 Geneva Motor Show: BMW M3 concept with lightweight roof
Intelligent lightweight engineering
The BMW M3 Concept Car is the latest showcase for BMW's use of advanced weight saving technology and the clearest demonstration of this on the car is its roof. Specialists at the BMW Plant in Landshut, Germany, constructed the carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) roof using an exclusive production method taken from the firm's experience in Formula One. Courtesy of a clear lacquer the carbon-fibre weave is still clearly visible.
As a highly visible advanced technology component, the CFRP roof dominates the technically innovative appearance of the BMW M3 Concept Car. Seen from the side, the roof edge appears flatter and thus lowers the perceived body height. Apart from the appearance, the CFRP roof also offers a real technical advantage being considerably lighter than a steel roof. This not only reduces the overall vehicle weight, but by reducing the weight of the highest element in the body, the centre of gravity is also lowered to produce a better balanced car. The CFRP roof is a perfect example of how interlinking technical innovation with an individual design strategy was central to the development of the BMW M3 Concept Car.

But it is indicative of the thinking behind the design philosophy.
I believe the marque has already sold street cars with light-weight
roofs - just can't think of which ones. There was a special short run
a few years ago that I am trying to recall.
Not bashing BMW.
This coupe incident happened at Willow. Street or track, when things
go wrong at speed, one needs more than the roof to save the day.
Edit: mountainbiker provided the photo above and others in a thread about
the incident 2005-11-13: Big Corvette wreck. God saves him.

the subsequent M6 also has the CF roof.
BMW M3 CSL (Coupe, Sport LightMetal) - "The roof of the car has in fact
been created in carbon fibre reinforced plastic"
BMW M6 - Lightweight body panels including carbon fibre roof

Geez what where the circumstances with the vette at willow? There is a total failure of the roll hoop. Did that car roll more than once? Was it a slam? Was it a turn 9 roller or Turn 3 roller?

As qwik96GS said, it took place at Streets of Willow. I created a link to
the original thread but must have overlooked pasting it into my post.
mountainbiker provided the photo above and others in a thread about
the incident 2005-11-13: Big Corvette wreck. God saves him.
