Default Driving at Pocono Raceway?

Anybody know what you have to do to drive on Pocono Raceway in PA? I hear they allow people to take their own cars on the track but don't know what's involved, such as how much, what modifications you have to do to a regular street vette, etc. New to this and want to push my car a little more than what can be done on the public roads. Thanks in advance.

Check out www.trackschedule.com for a list of tracks and schools and dates.

And let me know (www.tracktapes.com) if you want a DVD of the track to "learn it" before you drive it.

Enjoy!!!

Monday and Tuesday coming up (Memorial Day and the day after), the Festival of Speed and Design are doing track days at Pocono, on the long course. The Corvette Club is one of the sponsors, so there are a ton of Vettes out there for that one. I'm going to be there Monday, and I know Bob (WickedWeasel) and the crew from ECS will be there as well. Check out: http://ccnepa.ernccc.org/ for information on the event.

Sorry, didn't respond on the mods. You really don't have to do a whole lot to get started. Change your oil, transmission fluid, differential gear oil. Make sure the engine is in good order, no leaks, hoses, etc. in good condition. It's a good idea to have a new set of brake pads, as you tend to eat them up on the track. Street tires are fine, as long as they are in good condition, still have decent tread. If you are just starting, you will be in a novice group with an instructor and will not be pushing the car to its limits. You also need a good helmet (Snell SA2000 or newer) and a pair of driving gloves, and wear long sleeve shirt and long pants. Be sure to empty everything loose out of the car, including the air inflator kit, and all the stuff in your glove compartment. Once you're hooked and start doing a lot of track events, you'll probably want to get a harness bar and racing harness, and start thinking about brake pads and rotors, as they tend to take a beating.

Other than that, go out, give it a try and have fun.

2 days at Watkins Glen a few weeks ago ruined me!
I'll be at Pocono Monday and Tuesday. Can't wait!

This event requires a 5BC fire extinguisher also

All you really need is a helmet and a car. Make sure the helmet is SA rated and not M (SA for cars, M for motorcycles)

Generally NASA, PDA, SCCA and most clubs require a rollbar for Convertibles. There are a few that don't. There are a few shops that install roll bars. Or if you're inclined that way you can do it yourself.
There are weld in ones and bolt in. For what you are doing a bolt in will work well.
Pfadt Engineering (forum sponsor/vendor) sells a nice one.
Or check with Doug at ECS (forum sponsor/vendor) he probably has a lead on more than one type and can install it also.
