Maybe look in the factory service manual for that year?

All else fails give Gordon Killebrew a call.

You need to wire it up the same way.

It might be easier to get an old harness.

Default Abs

Found your thread on a search. I am building a GS replica and have a 90 model ABS system. I have a wiring diagram from the manual that was copied and sent to me. The diagram shows one circuit in and one out on the accelarometer and the device has three wires. I am missing some of the original harness. The only other thing I noticed is that some of the circuits from the EBCM show to not be used. With all that have you had any luck getting information or making your system work?

Thanks

Contact CF member ZBRA.

He has been working on this stand alone system also. There were many threads about it a few weeks back, try a search on his name and go back through them to get more info.

I am also interested in doing this to my 1993, so please keep this thread active as you acquire information. I'll help where I can but currently have a bigger fish to fry (see "C4 Fireball" thread in C4 tech/performance for more info) so I'm a little behind you guys.

Good luck!

I can't be of any help yet. I have bought all of the parts to convert my '94 to the '86-'89 ABS system, but have not started the swap yet.

If I sucessfully do it, I'll post the wiring diagram and instructions. That could very well be a year from now though.

Out of curiosity, what parts?
  • EBCTM
  • Accellerometers
  • Harness

What else? Did you need to purchase the valving also, or do you think your newer system will work for that?

About how much was the total of the parts?

Thanks...

Yup it works now. I had the ignition switch sending it power because I just assumed thats what it wanted. If I had actually paid attention to the wiring diagram earlier, I would have seen that it wants a ground signal when it is cranking. Put in a relay from the ignition switch that gives the computer a ground during start and voila! ABS.

Hey there, my '94 racer is at the cage guy now..I'll post pics soon. I'm trying to figure out if I should sell my abs stuff or not..I'd rather not, but what made you decide to swap to the '86-89 system?

That's great news. Would you mind taking a few minutes and posting the following information? My Helms is for my '93, it's not going to be even close...

Parts list (aside from wires)
Wiring diagram

With your success I will definatley do this swap.

Thanks!

Does the older C4 ABS have a better feel on the track? I've got the 92 system (not the best feel when it kicks in - in my opinion).

What about putting a newer ABS system in a C4?

My 94 is stripped of the interior wiring harness and no longer has a BCM (body control computer). The 94 ABS system uses certain signals from the body control computer.

I have not yet pulled the 94 ABS system out as I am still far from having the engine etc wired up. If I can get the 94 system to work without the BCM, I'll keep it. If not, I'll swap in the 86-89 ABS system. Those years did not have a BCM, only an ECM (engine control computer).

I really have not had any time to work on the ABS. I have so many other aspects of the car that need attention. The ABS is going on the back burner until the transmission, wiring harness, computer, rear end, rear suspension, and brakes are all in the car, and the car is running again.

Right now, it's nothing more than a frame, body, and completed front suspension, all sitting on jack stands. I finally dropped the motor back in Saturday, but nothing is hooked up.
