C5 Z06 trailer tie down
Do any of you guys have illustrated instructions for tying down a C5 to a trailer? What points do you tie to?
I tried a search and found nothing.
Thanks

There are tow hooks that you can get that fit into the slots at the four jack point below the rocker panels. The hooks lock into the slot and have a loop on the end that you can clip into. Alternatively, you can go around the A frames, or through the wheels. I usually go through the wheels and have never had a problem, including towing long distance at highway speeds.

Bob, if you bend over and look at the frame rail, just about where the front fender wraps under the car, you'll see a slot. There'll be one on each side of the car. This is a point where a "T" hook fits that the factory uses to attach a strap to that is used to secure the car to a trailer. If you look just in front of the rear fender well, also on the frame rail, there'll be a slot on both sides of the car. These are also used to insert the "T" hooks into that have a strap attached to them.
Once the "T" hooks are inserted with a strap attached, criss cross them under the car and attach the rachet end of the strap into the "D" ring on the trailer.
Cinch all 4 straps good and tight and you're ready to rock and roll.
Here's a link to a picture of the "T" Towing hook and a rachet strap at Northern Tools:

Using T Hooks in the shipping slots is the best way to tie down the car. Tieing to the wheels or control arms puts undue pressure on the control arm mounts.

When you are tying down the car be sure to "X" one set of the straps. IE: left side D Ring to Right side tie down location and right to left with the other one. This adds "slide" protection and keeps the car from sliding side to side if you have a smooth surface trailer.

The spots for the T-hooks seem to far inward to me. My d-rings in the floor of the trailer floor are just in front of the front and rear bumpers. I don't see how this would be a good spot with it being that far from the mount point or is it OK?

You should be fine with the floor rings under the bumpers. If the straps rub against the tires, you may want to cross both front and rear straps.

Great info! I just purchased a set of T-hooks to use on my trailer as described above. I've been X-ing my straps at all four attachment points at the wheels - like the T-hook method much better. Thanks.

As said, Xing is the best way.......most ratchet straps 12' long max will handle all 4 spots. I do like to x all 4 as the car will walk if you travel rougher roads.

you want a FLAT tie down hook not twisted as it may pound into the bottom of the car as you can see in the pictures from rough roads.

Man this is good stuff. Im really looking forward to these things. I just baught my first enclosed trailer and there is not much more i hate then trying to get the straps around the A arms. My vette sits pretty low and i can barely get my arm under the front of the car. These look like it will make life pretty easy.
