Anybody doing Buttonwillow the 23rd?

Well, the car is certainly capable of that, but if you drive within your
own limits, it isn't too scary ... then again where is that limit?
Actually going on track is mostly just fun at first, leaning the track
means that you can't be 'at the limit' out of the chute. At BW CCW
just take it easy onto the straight out of Sunrise corner, somebody
should have mentioned that to the Mustang driver last weekend, then
again, come to think of it, it was mentioned several times.
I plan to be there on the 23rd and run the time trial as well, hope to
see you there.

That corner exit has that interesting little off-camber drop away that promotes a sudden over-steer right at the exit of the turn. If you take it down a notch and nail the apex and exit it should never be a problem.

Oli, Turns should never be a problem "If" everyone would take it down a
notch and hit a perfect line. The problem isn't the turn, it's the driver,
we all want to push and the number of really good laps I've done in four
years is still a small count. There's always at least one corner where I
want to slap up side my helmet and mumble to myself, 'don't do that
again, dummy'.
Buttonwillow this time of year should be good, no recent rain on the
track and nice warming up though lunch time. Hope the TT gets put
in that window of great grip before things get too hot. Good luck in
the next race outing.

I personally have swapped ends/tank slapped the car exiting that turn on two different occassion. I was able to straighen her out and keep going though.

Well, if I can believe the forecast it is supposed to be back into the 80's
for the following weekend so should be just about perfect at BW for the
23rd. Wish NCRC would post a car and entry list so you could see who
was going before the event. Gotten spoiled with the SV listing, I guess.
Anyone else going, hope there are a few Corvettes in the mix.

I would like to go, but a couple of cones snuck out onto the track and jumped in front of my car. So now I have to fix some moderate front end damage to good 'ol #22. I don't know what it is about me and cones at Cal Speedway....

Oli, I presume temp chicanes, don't feel bad. I was at Thunderhill for
the local Driving School a couple years ago and decided head on was
better than sideways. I didn't brake early enough at the end of the
front straight and after deciding that I wasn't going to make the S
through the chicane, I just took the cone at the licence plate cover
going into turn 1. It hung up until I entered turn 2 and the guy behind
me who had closed up since I had slowed got it under his car for the
ride all the way back to the hot pit. After I and the instructor told the
pit guy that going straight was the better half of valor and we were out
on track I did note the other guy still at the hot pit trying to dislodge
the cone. Oh well, following too close also has hazards.
Sorry to miss you and Ed, maybe later in the year ...

Well, it took awhile to break into triple digits today so it was a great
morning. Got some good early coaching from Brian, thanks, doing a lead
follow with his C4 and it helped. Did a 2.21 early then had a drop off
to 2.23 in the next session which got cut short. But when I did the TT
just after lunch got in to the 2.19's with the first hot lap, very lucky
on car spacing and had a great run chasing a faster car.
Hope it went well for some of the other Vettes there. Talked to Brian
and Bob some, and saw silver C5Z as well as some C6's.

Thanks Sidney, it was a fun day and just enough Vettes to keep them
at the front when some were looking at lap times. Having passed some
lower HP good turning cars I tend to forget how much fun BW is for high
HP cars, which keeps me going back. The best of the Spec Miata's in
the combined ARC/TCRA race group were running low 2.21s mid morning
and 2.22s in the Qual session so I was very happy to pull out under 2.20.
I'm guessing I will make the NCRC event 7/20 at TH to make the TT.
The TrackMasters event for the 21st at Sears Point is full but I might
just go up to watch and maybe catch a ride or two. Getting too hot
for my 6 year old radiator, going to have to do something there.

Buttonwillow was GREAT!
Even the weather was good about 90. First time on a track with my c-6 with stock run flats and HP+ pads. I went in group 3 with a instructor and it was well worth it. He made me go around in 4th the first two sessions to get use to the track. Then cut me loose and I did the rest of the day in 3rd. Could of gone faster using 2nd on some corners but learned alot more about cornering by not shifting. Also learned this car has to much power for that track and my stock tires!

Yes on the clean out, several times, but is doing less and less good as
time goes by.
Codysdad is right that the weather was pretty nice at least up to lunch
time. Took awhile to heat up. When learning a track shifting can get in
the way so using one gear is good way to focus on the line. There are
just two places where 2nd helps some, Star Mazda and then on the
other end of the track at Off Ramp but in both cases it runs out pretty
quick. Getting the 4th to 3rd down shift is probably the most important
as it allows you to carry speed some places in 4th where 3rd runs out
too early. The Spring Mt. school is a great place to get your shifting
down and it's on their cars to boot ... .
