That was quite the chatter on the corner worker radios! The blue Z06, right? Dan Popp? He hardly lifted prior to apex, and in most corners was doing a full power on power-slide through the turns. Absolutely amazing! There was some talk of this being the fastest NASA record yet, and damn near the fastest fendered car lap time ever on this track. Can anyone confirm?

1 freakin' lap and it's a 1:28.
I am quite certain I remember reading Jon (last years TTU champ) saying it was unlikely that Danny would have beaten his time. Hell Danny beat that time in Jaymz's bone stock street C5 Z 2 months ago, yesterday he destroyed it. And SCCA corenerworker, there was a grand am cup 200K+ Porsche that did turn a faster lap.
Oh well. Great single lap Danny.

I was there when it happened. BTW, it was also the second 28 of the day, but they didn't have the transponder loop on the first time.
Now he just needs to find a good engine guy, cause he can't do everything himself anymore, and the current one has caused unbelievable headache and extra labor (motor in & out, rinse, repeat -- multiple times). Hopefully this can happen beforethe Grassroots Motorsports Challange at VIR next month.

Watching Danny run that car was really something. I think his Sunday's time beat the P-car's time. If only he could get the motor to work......
My weekend didn't go too well. After spending what seemed like numerous days on the road, Mazdarati Rob, TCMC5 and I finally showed up at M-O with a new clutch and a big smile on our faces. But that was short lived.
I ran Friday in test 'n tune just breaking in the new clutch. I never got above 4,500 RPM's so I didn't get any real time to get the feel for the clutch during aggressive driving.
Saturday morning during our practice session was going to be the only opportunity to know exactly how it was going to feel at speed compared to the old stock clutch. Towards the last of the session I was on it pretty hard and coming out of Madness, where the car gets real light, I pinched the turn, the car started sliding, I tried to correct it, but got into the wet grass track left, and went into the tire wall. It broke the tie rod knuckle off of the spindle, broke the driver's side front fender so my day was done without really getting started.
I'll fix it in the next couple of weeks and try again at VIR or Road Atlanta.
Mazdarati Rob's RX8 started going into limp mode during the Saturday's sessions, so his track time was less than enjoyable.
Wallyman had 2 great races. He did well on both days.
James Forbis had a fine race on Sat. and was running good on Sunday trying to keep Tony Buffomante in sight, but had to retire do to a vibration.
Overall, the weekend wasn't a complete loss. I got a new clutch, met some fantastic people and got to watch Danny blow the doors off of some expensive P-cars.
