Default new 710s with one year old date code - acceptable?

I bought a set of hoosiers in the spring and they have a better date code than a set of 710's I just bought this week. 3706 seems awfully old for a new set at full price. I expected an 07 date not a full year old tire.
Anyone think this is normal or not?

Yeah, when I got my Hankooks they had a build date of 1105, I was pissed but was told that they are good for 3 years if stored properly.

I won Nationals on them, so they couldn't be that bad.

Old date codes are not a problem as long as they are kept out of high heat or really cold weather. If stored in a warehouse or someones climate controlled garage/basement, they will work fine.

I ran on V710's with 05 date codes this year. At my first SCCA T1 National this year, I qualified on the pole and won.

unless they had problems with tires near that date you will be fine.

I'll be testing them out Satuday and I'm sure they'll be way better than what I've just used up.

I just put on a set of 710's that were all dated near the end of 06. 2 from Tire Rack & 2 from Discount.

Previously I have gotten some that were only about 3 months old. It's a crap shoot the dates you get.

You should rub some Crisco on them tonight so they get extra grip for tomorrow.

Are you running the Z tomorrow?

Pam cooking spray seemed to go on more evenly than Crisco, and faster. I'll even bring some and do your tires for you while you're busy teching in the AM.

And no, not the Z, as I have plans to beat you using my trusty 88.

Pam would probably help my scrubs, they are so old I think they came over on the Mayflower.

I took delivery of a set of new 710s just before Carlisle and they were all date coded in 2005. In fact two of them were date coded earlier than some used tires I had purchased from Chris Ingle earlier this year.

When I saw that I went through the rest of my 710s and found they were all dated in 2005.

I'm going to guess different warehouses have different shipments sitting there, since this sounds more common than I expected. FWIW , the grip today for the first event on them was phenomenol.

That's the most important thing right?

I do remember this issue coming up around here at home too, especially when buying used tires.

I was looking around just a little bit the other day and this was the closest I could find to any "guidelines" on tire shelf life--and this is only for street tires too it looks like. Under the section, "Tires Aging Dangerously".

They seem to be saying you shouldn't be using tires past 6 years from date on manufacture??? And I can't tell if the aging is uniform either.

We recently got a durometer too in part because we do buy so many used tires. Now I just need to learn how to use the data properly (if at all) LOL--anyone have any advice?

Good luck with your events (and your tires)!!!
