Default La Carrera Panamericana road race

A friend of mine is taking his 1965 Corvette to the race of death in Mexico, is anyone else going?

I heard that they are running that again. It sounds awesome. That's what real road racing is all about. Not extra runoff room in Eau Rouge at Spa.

FYI.. FWIW.. In case you guys don't know, Carrera means "race" in Spanish. Porsche stole that name for their cars after the original Carrera Panamericana. I also found out just tonight that El Camino means "The Road". I never knew that.

Porsche actually won the original Pan-Am in the early 50's, that is why they use the name. I had a 54 Lincoln I was going to use for the race a few years ago but the cost of the event is pretty huge, like $15-25K by the time you are finished and I couldn't justify the exprnditure. A seat at LeMans was only $35K in the class winning Porsche... The idea of going almost 200 mph on Mexican roads in order to win in a 50 year old car (tube framed but silly aerodynamics) was a little offputting as well.

Here is the web page, check out the video of 2006 about 50 seconds in....
