I've searched and found many opinions, mostly positive, about using C5 ZO6 wheels for tracking but I don't think I heard from anyone actually doing it. I guess I was mostly concerned on whether the 17 on front will clear my Z51's brakes?

Oh, am I correct in assuming C5 ZO6 wheels are 17X9.5 and 18X10.5?

I think they're running the 18" Z06 wheels all the way around.

So you mean buy 2 sets of rears? I thought the 10.5 would rub up front?

Yeah, get 4 rears. The 18 inch wheels will clear your front calipers. I haven't tried 17" Z06 rims on the front of my C6 yet.
My 17" CCW's cleared the C6 brakes, but the offset is different (run on my F-body race car) so the 275 tires did rub the fender slightly. Watch your overall tire diameter on the 18's; keep it close to stock and there shouldn't be any issues. I'm not sure how wide a tire the guys are running on the Z rims.
Here's a bump to the top so maybe one of those C6 racers will see it.
