Default Sequential shifter for stock transmission, have you seen this?

It's a shifter that converts the H pattern to a sequential pattern. Pretty clever idea but it is pricey. $1200 to $1500 is a bit of money for a shifter but the utility and coolness factor makes me think about it. The company that manufactures it is out of Japan.

Would you pay the money for something like this? It seems to me that the market wouldn't be that big for that price range. I can see that at $600 more people would be interested.

$600 is cheap. Holinger Sequential that LG Imports is in the $20K range.

X-Trac sequential that the C6R uses is in the $90K range.

I was saying that I think a reasonable price would be $600. They are selling for $1200-1500. A sequential transmission is another story by itself. They are dog ring, straight cut gears. Not exactly for a street/track car. With this shifter you would just have the sequential pattern. I think it is pretty bulky. It may be annoying in a street car with it taking up so much room.

I'd rock it.
We can't let the imports have all the fun can we?

Can you say "Mis-shift eliminator?"

Man... I could create a 6 note symphony with that thing!

That Elise video is pretty funny.

If its anything like the renagate it works from a ratcheting mechanism. Renagate has been around for a while, but only works on external linkage 4 speeds. They work well, but cannot be compared to a sequential transmission.

If it is ricer, I tend to think drag racing and would it hold up under contstant road race hammering? Also, with real sequential you don't use the clutch, except to start. So nothing really gained, as you still need to depress the clutch and move some lever. Whether that is back and forth or H pattern, makes no difference. I think the real advantage to true sequential is no longer needing a clutch for fast shifts.

i've heard of these before, however they were only for cable operated shifters. i didnt really check this one, but i'd assume its the same deal.

On transmissions like jerico, t-101, etc. you don't need to use the clutch either. The shifting is lightning fast and this just makes it simpler. 2-3 shift on a jerico is sometimes tricky and you end up in 1. Renagate eliminates all that. The shifter on the top of this thread I would steer clear from.

The advantages to a sequential are the 'sequential' part of it and the consistent motion for up shifts (pull back) and down shifts (push forward). The sequential aspect always gets you to the next gear rather than an H pattern could (by accident) put you in a lower gear when you wanted to be in a higher gear. The push-pull motion reduces driver workload allowing you to concentrate more on car control. I've looked at the design of this shifter and other than its overall bulk it is a sound design. Their web site states that they raced a 1000km endurance race at Silverstone with a Porsche. That is a good testament to its design.

Don't confuse sequential with a dog-ring gear box. While you can have both they are not always together. The advantages of sequential shifting are stated above. The advantages of a dog-ring box are 1) clutchless, therefore, faster shifting, 2) stronger due to the lack of synchros, 3) easier to up and down shift with large amounts of power and large speed changes.

Yea it's a chunk of change but so are a set of Hoosiers. How long do they last 3-4 days then you need to pay 5` ea to dispose of. Buy that for 1200 and if it works you could always resell it.
