Default "How To" replace the steering rack....

Anyone have a site or will share info on replacing the steering rack on a '02 Z06?

Mine started leaking at the last race and I have a rebuilt one ready to go in, but need some advice on the easiest way to take the old one out and replace with new one. Drop the front subassembly a little? Just wiggle it in there?

Thanks in advance.

Jody, it's not hard, but messy. disconnect from the steering shaft, both tie rod ends, they hydraulic lines, and the two bolts that hold it into ths subframe. Then you simply slide it out one side. I don't think you have to dissasemble the suspension on that side, but you may have to remove the brake rotor just to get a little extra room.

It's tight, but it will come out. Make sure you flush out the cooler and pump if you think there might be some real damage.

It's really easy. You will have to clock the rack about 80 degrees and then pull it out. Make sure you have some plugs for the rack and lines. It will keep the mess down.

Just did mine 2 weeks ago. Mine wouldnt slip out without lowering the front subframe some. Otherwise the guys above are spot on.
