Stoptech: Recommended Pads?
For those with Stoptechs, can you recommend pads for:
(1) Initial HPDE's with street tires (e.g., Hawk Black, Carbo XP8, Pagid Orange),
(2) Advanced HPDE's with street or R-compound tires (e.g., Hawk DTC-70, PFC 01).
Thanks!

Which calipers do you have the ST-40 4 pot or the ST-60 6 pot?
So far my group of friends has tried
Pagid Yellow
Pagid Black
Hawk DTC-70
Hawk HT-10
PFC-03
PFC-01
Most days are at Road America
In my opinion the DTC-70 has the best bite, but they only last about 3 track days. They also seem to be very rotor friendly, one of the guys has over 9 days on a set of rotors using only DTC-70's.
The PFC-03 seems to be similar to the DTC-70 but not quite as much bite and they are more expensive.
The PFC-01 or the Pagid Yellow are a good comprimise pad between bite and longevity. The PFC 01's will last about 6 days and handle higher temps, but won't have the bite of the above pads.
Pretty much the same can be said for the Yellow, but I've heard of people driving through them, temp wise.
The Pagid black will last about 6 days but it won't have the bite and again I've heard of people driving through them.
The HT-10's are what we use in the rear with the DTC-70 front, I think that is the best combo out there, although I haven't tried the Pagid Gray yet. We will try a set out next year.
I haven't had heat problems at RA but there is a lot of room for cooling and all of these cars have spindle ducts and DRM extender ducts.
Hope this helps, I would rather have more brakes than not enough, so I wouldn't look for pads to match the tires I would put something on and drive the car, I guess it depends on the track but you have to have a **** load of braking torque to lock your brakes up at 100 mph, plus that's the ABS 's job.

I have ST60's on the front and ST40's on the rear (thanks David Farmer for the great deal!). I run HPDE's with street tires. I called CarboTech to see what they recommended. They pointed me to XP10's for the front and XP8's for the rear's.
I've only done one HPDE day since getting the brakes but they did great. No fade issues at all. Very consistent braking. I haven't taken the pads out to check the wear yet. I don't have any experience with other pads so can't comment on how they compare to others.

My 04 Z06 with Stoptechs runs Pagid Blue on the street, and Hawk HT14s and HT10s on the track.
My 63 Z06 runs PFC-01s on the track with stock 65, 66, 67 K-H disc brakes.

Sure they are dusty but I bleed the brakes when I get home so I clean the wheels when I take them off-about 2 minutes a wheel. The pads are awesome, never fade, great bite and easy to modulate.
That said these are the only pads I have ever used so I can't comment on the others.

I have a C6 Z06, with Stop Tech ST-60 fronts and ST-40 rears. I use Hawk DTC-70 front and DTC-60 rears. I have 9 track days with about 40% left on my 2nd set. I had 10 days and about 40% on my first set. Same Stop Tech Rotor for all 19 days. The rotor is covered with heat checks, I can't hang a fingernail yet and the cracks are not going all the way to the edge but it looks close to needing replacement. I typically tun stock size Hoosiers.

I am hearing so many bad things about the carbotechs these days that I may go back over to the hawks. I know the caliper design has alot to do with it, but do the wilwoods and hawks tapper as bad as the carbo's in the stock caliper?

Have a new set for the 97' sitting on the work bench.
http://www.vansteel.com/ gave a great price on them......and a supporting vendor here on the Forum too!
Z06 pads have been fine till ya start threshold breaking, a tad bit of fade at VIR at the session ends but ok to deal with.
New set of front rotors for these pads and all will be good me thinks.....that's what Danny Popp said it needed

I've not used Carbos, I use only WilWood H's so I can't compare them to anything else. The WilWoods do taper, but the fronts last me 3 race weekends (which is 6 races) and when I replace them they aren't used 50%.
