Urgent: Reinstalling tapered pads.
Hey guys - quick question on installing pads with taper.
I've got a set of XP10 and XP12 that both have taper and I want to finish them off this weekend.
On the drivers side. Outside pad. Does the thinner part of the pad go on top or on the bottom to balance out the existing taper? And what way on the inside of the caliper?
I think I know but wanted to double check before I put them on this afternoon.
Thanks.

Doesn't the bottom of the pad get the most wear? I would then put the thick part to the bottom in each place.

If I remember right the inside bottom followed by the outside top. Since the pistons are only on one side of the caliper. But I might have it backwards.
Anyone else?

Mine always wore at a diagonal across both pads with the thick part of one pad matching the thin part of the other pad. The picture below shows a set of stock C5 pads from the right front.
It always found it easiest to to keep track of which pads were on which corner and then swap a complete set from one side of the car to the other as the taper was the exact opposite on the other side of the car.
By the way the picture shows the right caliper actually twists counterclockwise on the guide pins which causes the wear shown. The left caliper twists clockwise.

Thanks guys. I put my sets away as matched pairs. I write down on the tape where to install it next time. This is an older set I forgot to mark. I'll swap the pads around tomorrow at the track.
That's interesting Bill! Never thought about it like that.
