Default Radiator Questions

I am going to replace my stock unit when I install my cam later this month.

My question is that some radiators are MUCH more expensive than others. Is it worth it to buy a radiator w/o an oil cooler and then add an external unit later?

It seems that the only unit that is priced low is the DeWitts that has an integrated cooler.

I'd like to go with the DRM but the one with the cooler is like $1200. Is it worth it to buy the one w/o the cooler for the time being?

Certainly I will get lower water temps, but the DRM is $100 plus more than the DeWitts and does not have the cooler.

Anyone with any of these chime in. I know the DeWitts is a decent unit, all of my friends have had the DRM and want me to go with that instead. Is it worth the cash?

Thanks, Z

Z, I know my comments may be viewed as bias but the facts are:

We both use the same cores, so they basically cool the same.
Our tanks are press formed and do not have seam welded corners
We use a seven plate cooler and I'm pretty sure R/D is six.
Feedback on the forum suggests ours fit better
and as you mentioned, the cost is a little lower.

Ron Davis makes a very nice unit, and if you feel better paying more money, then that's the way to go.

Sounds good Tom, thanks for the reply. Think that I will be calling you tomorrow to place an order.

Is there a difference in performance between the right side one and left side one? I saw that one was backordered but I need mine before Nov. 15.

Thanks, Z

I haven't analyzed the various kits, but if you get a DRM setup with cooler, you are also paying for lines, fittings, and a very nice block adapter. If you don't want an oil cooler, then just get a BeCool Radiator from Summit.

I've used setups from many companies with very similar results, but if you know you want an oil cooler eventually, getting a kit will make things go easier.

I just got my DeWitts via UPS yesterday. PM me if you want to take a look at it before I install. I also know hisvett has a DRM with EOC that I helped install. It is very nice also.

Sounds good guys, thanks for the replys.

I just wanna know if the DeWitt's is made with just as quality parts and cooling capacity why is the DRM 2x the price. Just cause they want to?

Doesn't make much sense. I see that the DRM does come with a very nice set of stainless lines and the DeWitts does not.

Left side is out of the question for me. I need it in about 13 days and it says they are backordereed.

^ I run a left side cooler.... works awesome and heats up fine in winter driving.

Max oil temp I've seen with it is 276 and that was in 105 degree temps at VIR. My last outing to VIR in September I never got over 260.

My kit came w/ all SS lines w/ AN fittings and an LPE adapter block.

Wow. I did not see that listed on the site coming with the stainless lines and all. I will be calling later this afternoon to order. Thanks Cobra.

^ I think the price listed on the web is just the radiator unit... then you get the lines and adapter block seperately, but still from Dewitts.

^ I think LG uses Be Cool.... to me it's all roughly the same. I went w/ the Dewitts because I saved a little and wanted the left side cooler.

We have them in stock and ready to go.

Our radiators are made for us to our specs, these are not a 'Be-Cool' radiator, or an off the shelf unit.

Give myself or Bobby a call and well get you taken care of!

Whoa Zee,

Hold on a sec....

We sell our radiators and hose kit separately because some people like to do the hoses themselves or they all ready have them. Our model number A05E (oil cooler only on left side) is $670. The hose kit is $356, so the combination is $1026. Some people have used the stock Z51 hose package from GM which only costs about $150 and it incorporates a 7 psi bypass valve. I know our website says 2-3 weeks but we could built one in a couple days if you really need it bad.

We make our own radiators, in house!
We back them up with a three year warranty!
We specialize in Corvette radiators only!
We are a CF sponsor!

Well then I would defnately like to order one.

I assume that you have sale associates, will they understand that I need it sooner or should I ask to speak directly with you?

I just need it before the 15th.

Let me know what I need to do b/c I will call tomorrow.

Thanks for all the help, Z
