Default New Helmet Paint job

thought you guys might like to see this. Local charlotte area job, awesome results. I basically just let my wife and him design something for me, as I'm not that artistic.

Anyway, he's pretty reasonable if you are in the market. Again, this was done with hardly any input from me, but I think if you have a design he can really bring it to life.

btw, looks better in person than my photos....

Looks real good. How much does he charge if you dont mind me asking?

I would like to do something simple to my helmet, nothing crazy. It is plain white right now.....

he asked me not to quote prices, but he is very reasonable. I'll get his contact info for you next week, as I'm off to Vegas/Spring Mt today.

I've painted all my helmits myself especially after seeing the prices that the pros ( like Troy Lee ) charged. And they won't paint a used helmit.
It's a fun project for the off season.
I've been doing "things you're not supposed to" on helmits and graphics on cars for years.
You can kinda see my helmit in my avatar. For an inexpensive paint job, you can use different paints as long as the top coat is the good stuff. I use PPG 2 part clear for the topcoat.
All the colors on the helmit came out of rattle cans. The pearls came from Boyd Coddington model car paint ($3 per can). The candy metalics are Duplicolor Metalcast ( the 500 degree stuff that lools like anodizing) sprayed over their silver base. All covered with the PPG clear.
The PPG holds up really well. The only chips in the paint after 3 years are from rocks ( open wheel ) and a spec miata roll bar.
I've sprayed clear over this type of paint many times and never got a wrinkle or lift.
The cost to paint these helmits is about $30.

quick update... the only thing I didn't like about my helmet was that the name was on the rear, and not the side. The painter really didn't want it on the side, but I think he is used to doing Motorcycle helmets, where the rear is more visible.

Anyway, I added some vinyl for the side, as well as a shield banner. I like it even more now!

I'm liking that! My snow white helmet isn't doing it for me. Hmmm . . . I'll be on the EC next week . . . think the wife'll mind a racing helmet in the luggage?

To be honest, and not that it looks bad here, but Dave's helmet looks much better in person then it does in these pics.

I'd LOVE to get a cool custom helmet paint job myself, but have always gone the cheap 'decal' route instead. Troy Lee Designs used to offer some neat sticker sets specifically for helmets, but he stopped about a year ago. There were indian feathers, lightning bolts & (of course) flames.

EDecals.com has some nice designs now, including a 'morphing' American Flag/Eagle sticker that fit the sides of my new Sparco helmet quite well. They make L&R pair sets to orient the design properly on both sides of the helmet.

I agree IF you get a black/grey helmet then apply decals....however if you start with a white helmet, it is hard to ever get it to look truly custom with stickers.....I've had enough of them to know.

Looks cool, but I'm not sure I'd like it to look like my head is on fire.

I'm sticking with the Ren and Stimpy / Spongebob helmets that Pilgrim wears...
