Default Race Track QUOTES OF FAME From the NASA Corvette "Over The Hill" Instructor's Group

Though I drive Through the Valley of Death, I Shall Fear No Evil. For I am at 160 mph, 150 Feet and Closing.

You've never been lost until you've been lost at VIR Grand!
________________________________________ ___________________
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire!
________________________________________ ___________________
There are more C4's broke down/crashed in the garage than C5's at the track!
________________________________________ ___________________
If the tires are traveling faster than the car, it's probably unsafe!
________________________________________ ___________________
When one tire goes flat, you always have enough rubber left to get you to the scene of the crash!
________________________________________ ____________________
What is the similarity between students and instructors? If an instructor screws up, the instructor dies; If the student screws up, ... The Instructor dies.

Never trade luck for skill!
________________________________________ ___________________
The four most common expressions (or famous last words) in racing are:
"Why is it doing that?", "Where are we?", "Oh ****!" and "Why is that white Corvette all over my ***!"
________________________________________ ___________________
Good tires, good brakes and brains. Two are always needed to successfully complete the track event!
________________________________________ ___________________
A smooth corner is mostly luck; two in a row is all luck; three in a row is prevarication.
________________________________________ ___________________
I remember when sex was safe and racing was dangerous.
________________________________________ ___________________
Driving the car is more important than radioing to a crew chief that is incapable of understanding, or doing anything about your lousy driving.
________________________________________ ___________________
The Honda Civic is the safest racecar in the world; it can just barely kill you.
________________________________________ ___________________
A driver who doesn't have any fear, probably isn't driving his car to its maximum
________________________________________ __________________
If you're faced with a crash, drive the thing as far into the crash as possible!

Never ride in the same car with someone braver than you. (E.G. Don't ride in the car with Mike!!!!
________________________________________ ____________________
If something hasn't broken on your Corvette, it's about to.
________________________________________ ___________________
Basic driving Rules: Try to stay in the middle of the track. Do not go near the edges of it. The edges of the track can be recognized by the appearance of dirt, gaters, walls, trees and the fence. It is much more difficult to drive there!
________________________________________ ___________________
You know that your tires are flat and the front end is smashed in on your Vette when it takes full power to drive into the pits.
________________________________________ ___________________
As Mike climbs out of the crashed C5, having torn off the wheels and front end in the crash, Zach asks, "What happened?" Mike's reply: "I don't know, I just got here myself!"

"Aim towards the Enemy." - Jack's driving tip

When an upshift is missed, Mr. Transmission is not our friend. (4th to 2nd at 120 mph)

If your track day is going too well, you're about to blow up!
________________________________________ ___________________
No track-ready Corvette has ever passed inspection
________________________________________ ___________________
Never tell the Instructor you have nothing to do.
________________________________________ ___________________
Don't screw up on the track; it irritates the people around you.

Good stuff, Jack ...
There must be a companion trove of quotes garnered from students over the years ... usually attesting to their track prowess just before proving otherwise ... (of course, I can't recall any of the stupid stuff I've said ... :o

I kind of like "if you can't figure out who the slow one is, it's you".

I think that my favorite Jack instructor quote was one that I heard at VIR after a student put a Mini into the tire wall on the uphill esses. "Now that you have embarassed your self in front of God and Everyone else here at the track - DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE HELL YOU DID WRONG ??? "

Yes Jeff....I am a WUSS. We'll have to see how brave you are at Roebling (provided you drive your own car this time)... Fine line between bravery and overzeolous. If you make the turn fast, you're brave. If you fly off into the sand attempting the turn, you are overzeolous.....hmmm. Aren't you known as the SAND-MAN there

I am thinking a rental Eclipse, Mustang or Crossfire if I have nothing else "track ready". That way I will feel really good about it when you and Tim blow by me like I am a brake marker....

So if I have this straight you are running Roebling on Friday and Barber on Sat/Sun?

At least no one has told you "you do not have any bad habits, you are just slow"

One of my favorite quotes from LG:

When the FEAR of Death overcomes the THRILL of speed,

Brake.

That maybe a little late for most of us . . .

From the CAROC drivers meeting at Road America this fall:

"There is nothing that you can do to your car here today that will enhance it's value"

Hey Steve,

Great to hear from you. Man, you did a heckuva job at VIR this summer. Good fun for sure!

You know, I scare myself so bad in my cars on a constant and consistent basis, that it's almost a relief to climb into somebody elses' Vette in the right seat, where there's no steering wheel and gas pedal for me to play with!!!! Nah, not really!!!!!!!!!!:-)

Hope to see you at a few events in '08. Come on by the trailer and talk some, if you see the Corvette Instructor's "Over The Hill" gang group hanging about.

Unfortunately somebody told me that same line at Mid Ohio ... I'm getting even though, he has to instruct my brother on Friday!
